چکیده

EDITORIALS 211 inotropic agents (such as the catecholamines, calcium ions, and digitalis), and paired electrical stimulation. Entropy also increases during congestive heart failure, which may be thought of as an expression of a defect in the utilization of energy, a partial chemicomechanical uncoupling. The entropy of the myocardial cell tends to be reduced by negative inotropic agents, such as the $adrenergic blocking drugs, as well as by antidysrhythmic drugs. It is also reduced by direct-current conversion of dysrhythmias, during hibernation (either natural or induced), during hypothermic or chemical cardiac arrest, by cardiopulmonary bypass, or during the use of mechanical cardiac assistance.

P110: Nitrous Oxide and Neuroinflammation

Nitrous oxide was an anaesthetic gas that was used for many years. There were many anaesthetic drugs in operations  with many side effects. Nitrous oxide had some side effects too. But it was a safe gas in many times. In hospital personnel who worked in operating rooms exposure to this gas was important. The objective of this study was the introduction of nitrous oxide and neurologic side ...

Paradoxical changes in bispectral index during nitrous oxide administration.

I report two patients undergoing open heart surgery, with nitrous oxide and isoflurane anaesthesia, for whom bispectral index (BIS) monitoring showed high BIS values with nitrous oxide and isoflurane anaesthesia. The BIS decreased immediately after nitrous oxide was stopped and increased again after nitrous oxide was restarted.

Safety of high-concentration nitrous oxide by nasal mask for pediatric procedural sedation: experience with 7802 cases.

OBJECTIVES Nitrous oxide is an effective sedative/analgesic for mildly to moderately painful pediatric procedures. This study evaluated the safety of nitrous oxide administered at high concentration (up to 70%) for procedural sedation. METHODS This prospective, observational study included all patients younger than 18 years who received nitrous oxide for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures a...

Suppressive effect of nitrous oxide on motor evoked potentials can be reversed by train stimulation in rabbits under ketamine/fentanyl anaesthesia, but not with additional propofol.

The effect of nitrous oxide on myogenic motor evoked potentials (MEPs) after multipulse stimulation is controversial. We investigated the effects of propofol in this paradigm. MEPs were elicited electrically by a single pulse and by trains of three and five pulses in rabbits anaesthetized with ketamine and fentanyl. Nitrous oxide 30-70% was given and MEPs were recorded. After washout of nitrous...

Case-series of nurse-administered nitrous oxide for urinary catheterization in children.

BACKGROUND Children undergoing urologic imaging studies requiring urethral catheterization experience considerable discomfort and psychological distress. Nitrous oxide sedation may mitigate these detriments but the requirement for physician administration has limited the applicability of this technique. METHODS Registered nurses underwent the nitrous oxide training requirements prescribed for...
