Parallel Subpixel Scanconversion

چکیده

Computer graphics and its subsections image processing, image analysis and image generation are known to be a wide field for the application of parallel archi tectures. While in image processing and analysis the demand for "real time" com putation is in the center of discussion, it becomes more and more important in the field of image generation, too. Some applications, like sequences of realistic appearing images raise highest demands on algorithm and architecture as well. We want to tackle the problem of image generation on a raster device. This computation can be subdivided into the geometric processing (including transfor mations and clipping) and the pixel processing (including scanconversion, visibility computations, anti-aliasing, and shading). You can see that in the first phase this is an object oriented computation and in the second phase it's a pixel oriented compu tation (figure 1). Both in the first and second phase parallel processing is possible. The attempts to the parallelization can be classified according to this subdivi sion. There are obj~t oriented, pixel oriented (or more generally: image space oriented) and hybrid solutions. As a result, the boundary between pixel oriented and object oriented processing is often pushed to the periphery, including draw backs in the computational speed.

An Efficient Massively Parallel Rasterization Scheme For a High Performance Graphics System

We present in this paper the IMOGENE II system, a massively parallel Multi-SIMD graphics system. This architecture uses a new rasterization scheme combining Object Parallelism and Parallel Virtual Buffers. This scheme leads to a better efficiency than other massively parallel SHvlD systems, and allows a cost-effective, powerful and easily expandabJe system to be designed. The syst.em consists o...

Subpixel motion estimation in DCT domain

Currently existing subpixel motion estimation algorithms require interpolation of inter-pixel values. However, it is shown in this paper that, by introducing the concept of pseudo phase shifts in DCT coeecients of a moving object's intensity, subpixel displacements can be estimated on two consecutive frames in DCT domain without interpolating inter-pixel values. Speciically, under a certain con...

9 Accurate Scanconversion of Triangulated Surfaces

Scanconverting a planar face produces depth-values for pixels totally or partly covered by the projection of that face. State-of-the-art hardware-supported scan conversion techniques use sub pixel adjustment and extended precision calculations to achieve an acceptable depth-accuracy despite numeric round-off errors. Unfortunately, this depth-accuracy only holds for the interior pixels of the fa...

Fragment-Parallel Composite and Filter

• We identify a novel strategy to parallelize composite and filter across individual depth fragments, and describe an implementation on a modern GPU. We demonstrate that this technique is applicable to several areas with four examples: a particle system, a volume renderer, a polygon rasterizer and an interactive Reyes pipeline. • We compare the performance of the proposed fragment-parallel stra...
