چکیده

The sensitivity of the present CNGS beam to the sub-dominant νμ ↔ νe oscillations in the region indicated by the atmospheric neutrino experiments is investigated. In particular, we present a revised analysis of the OPERA detector and discuss the sensitivity to θ13 of ICARUS and OPERA combined. We show that the CNGS beam optimised for ντ appearance, will improve significantly (about a factor 5) the current limit of CHOOZ and explore most of the region sin 2θ13 ≃ O(10).

Cngs Neutrino Beam Systematics for Θ 13

Energy spectra, intensity and composition of the CERN to Gran Sasso CNGS neutrino beam for νµ → ντ and νµ → νe oscillation searches are presented. The associated beam systematics, which is the major ingredient for the νµ → νe search sensitivity, are obtained from the study of the previous CERN WANF.

M ar 2 00 7 The CNGS Neutrino Beam

The CERN to Gran Sasso Neutrino beam (CNGS) was commissioned at CERN in early August 2006 and was first sent at low intensity to Gran Sasso on August 17, 2006. The Borexino, LVD and OPERA detectors continued the commissioning of their detectors and started taking data with practically no dead time. The CNGS operated smoothly with good quality. In a short time the 3 detectors collected several h...

The OPERA Experiment

OPERA(Oscillation Project with EmulsiontRacking Apparatus) is a new detector concept, iron(lead)emulsion for a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. This experiment would perform an appearance search for υμ−υτ oscillation in the parameter region indicated by the atmospheric neutrino anomaly. OPERA can run at the Gran Sasso Laboratory in the proposed NGS (Neutrino to Gran Sasso) Beam fr...

Neutrinos from CERN to Gran Sasso: The CNGS project

The CNGS project (CERN Neutrinos to Gran Sasso) has been approved to make an unambiguous and direct observation of νμ − ντ oscillations. An intense and relatively pure νμ beam is generated at CERN and directed towards LNGS (Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso) in Italy. Two experiments, OPERA already started in 2007 and ICARUS T600, will try to detect tau neutrinos using large and complex detec...

A low energy optimization of the CERN-NGS neutrino beam for a θ13 driven neutrino oscillation search

The possibility to improve the CERN to Gran Sasso neutrino beam performances for θ13 searches is investigated. We show that by an appropriate optimization of the target and focusing optics of the present CNGS design, we can increase the flux of low energy neutrinos by about a factor 5 compared to the current τ optimized focalisation. With the ICARUS 2.35 kton detector at LNGS and in case of neg...
