Regional Frank-Starling relations in infarcted swine via dynamic real-time MRI

چکیده
Introduction: Non-invasive measurement of regional cardiac function is critical for the evaluation and development of pharmacologic, stem cell, and mechanical therapies to prevent adverse ventricular remodeling (1,2). Current methods require catheterization, have limited spatial resolution or field-of-view. Tyberg placed strain gauges directly on the epicardium to measure work (3). Current imaging methods provide a non-invasive and high spatial resolution approach, but are load-dependent since values obtained are influenced by the end-diastolic volume (preload) and arterial impedance (afterload). In this work, we developed an MRI method to quantify regional response to alterations in preload.

Regional timing of myocardial shortening is related to prestretch from atrial contraction: assessment by high temporal resolution MRI tagging in humans.
Earlier studies have shown substantial nonuniformity in normal left ventricular (LV) myocardial function concerning both the degree of shortening and timing of shortening. We hypothesized that nonuniform LV function may be related to nonuniform prestretch induced by atrial contraction. Eleven healthy human subjects were studied using MRI myocardial tagging and strain analysis. The amount of cir...
متن کاملX-ray fused with magnetic resonance imaging (XFM) to target endomyocardial injections: validation in a swine model of myocardial infarction.
BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) permits 3-dimensional (3D) cardiac imaging with high soft tissue contrast. X-ray fluoroscopy provides high-resolution, 2-dimensional (2D) projection imaging. We have developed real-time x-ray fused with MRI (XFM) to guide invasive procedures that combines the best features of both imaging modalities. We tested the accuracy of XFM using external fiduci...
متن کاملReal-time magnetic resonance imaging-guided coronary catheterization in swine.
BACKGROUND We tested the hypothesis that real-time magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can guide coronary artery catheterization in swine via a percutaneous femoral artery approach. METHODS AND RESULTS In 12 pigs, we accessed femoral arteries percutaneously. We used 6- or 7-French coronary Judkins catheters filled with dilute 4% gadolinium (Gd) contrast agent and coaxially inserted 0.030-inch di...
متن کاملSpin-labeling magnetic resonance imaging detects increased myocardial blood flow after endothelial cell transplantation in the infarcted heart.
BACKGROUND We quantified absolute myocardial blood flow (MBF) using a spin-labeling MRI (SL-MRI) method after transplantation of endothelial cells (ECs) into the infarcted heart. Our aims were to study the temporal changes in MBF in response to EC transplantation and to compare regional MBF with contractile function (wall motion) and microvascular density. METHODS AND RESULTS We first validat...
