چکیده

A validation study has been conducted for a turbulence model used to close the temporally filtered Navier Stokes (TFNS) equations. A turbulence model was purposely built to support fire simulations under the Accelerated Strategic Computing (ASC) program. The model was developed so that fire transients could be simulated and it has been implemented in SIERRA/Fuego. The model is validated using helium plume data acquired for the Weapon System Certification Campaign (C6) program in the Fire Laboratory for Model Accreditation and Experiments (FLAME). The helium plume experiments were chosen as the first validation problem for SIERRRA/Fuego because they embody the first pair-wise coupling of scalar and momentum fields found in fire plumes. The validation study includes solution verification through grid and time step refinement studies. A formal statistical comparison is used to assess the model uncertainty. The metric uses the centerline vertical velocity of the plume. The results indicate that the simple model is within the 95% confidence interval of the data for elevations greater than 0.4 meters and is never more than twice the confidence interval from the data. The model clearly captures the dominant puffing mode in the fire but under resolves the vorticity field. Grid dependency of the model is noted.

Flow Analysis Heat and Mass Transfer in a Room

This reports the study on the flow behaviour, heat transfer and contamination distribution in a room. For this purpose the 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, energy equation and a mass transfer equation which model the concentration of contamination have been applied. For turbulence simulation the two equation standard k-  turbulence model was employed. By means of SIMPLE algorithm the...

Turbulent Flow over Cars

In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...

Archimedes Screw Turbine Modeling using FLOW3D and Investigating Blade Number Effect on its Performance

Due to fossil fuel limitations, the application of small-scale renewable energies has been considered. Recently, the utilization of Archimedes screw turbines, as an emerging turbine, are being increased for converting the potential and kinetic energies of water to a mechanical one. In this research, the performance of Archimedes Screw Turbine (AST) was numerically, using Reynolds-Averaged Navie...

Existence Theory of Abstract Approximate Deconvolution Models of Turbulence

This report studies an abstract approach to modeling the motion of large eddies in a turbulent flow. If the Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) are averaged with a local, spatial convolution type filter, φ = gδ ∗ φ, the resulting system is not closed due to the filtered nonlinear term uu. An approximate deconvolution operator D is a bounded linear operator which is an approximate filter inverse D(u) ...

Flow Field Characteristics of an Aerospike Nozzle Using Different Turbulence Models

To improve the calculation of the flow properties of an aerospike nozzle, different turbulence models were investigated in this study. The primary shape of the nozzle plug is determined through utilizing an approximate method. The flow field is, then, simulated using the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows. The commercial computational fluid dynamics code Fluent is used to simulate t...
