Temperature dependence of the pressure induced monoclinic distortion in the spin S=1/2 Shastry–Sutherland compound SrCu2(BO3)2

چکیده
We investigate the monoclinic distortion that occurs at 4.7 GPa at room temperature in the frustrated Shastry–Sutherland model quantum magnet SrCu2(BO3)2 as a function of pressure and temperature by means of powder and single crystal angle dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Our results indicate that the onset of the structural distortion varies in a narrow pressure range between 4.0 and 5.0 GPa. This result will be useful in order to distinguish between magnetic transitions related to structural changes and potential intrinsic quantum phase transitions that various reports have suggested to take place in SrCu2(BO3)2 at high pressure and low temperature. & 2014 Elsevier Ltd. High-resolution study of spin excitations in the singlet ground state of SrCu2(BO3)2.
High-resolution, inelastic neutron scattering measurements on SrCu2(BO3)2, a realization of the Shastry-Sutherland model for two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnets, reveal the dispersion of the three single triplet excitations continuously across the (H,0) direction within its tetragonal basal plane. These measurements also show distinct Q dependencies for the single and multiple triplet e...
متن کاملTheory of magnetization plateaux in the Shastry-Sutherland model.
Motivated by the remarkable properties of SrCu2(BO3) 2 in a magnetic field, we use perturbative continuous unitary transformations to determine the magnetization plateaux of the Shastry-Sutherland model, unveiling an unexpected sequence of plateaux progressively appearing at 2/9, 1/6, 1/9, and 2/15 upon increasing the interdimer coupling. We predict that a 1/6 plateau should be present in SrCu2...

The temperature dependence of the gapped triplet excitations (triplons) in the 2D Shastry-Sutherland quantum magnet SrCu(2)(BO(3))(2) is studied by means of inelastic neutron scattering. The excitation amplitude rapidly decreases as a function of temperature, while the integrated spectral weight can be explained by an isolated dimer model up to 10 K. Analyzing this anomalous spectral line shape...

terest, because the thermal conductivity due to magnons, κmagnons, has been found to be large in some low-dimensional copper-oxides.1) Theoretically, the existence of a ballistic κmagnon has been predicted in integrable systems,2) and actually a large thermal conductivity associated with the ballistic κmagnon has been observed in one-dimensional Heisenberg chain systems SrCuO2 and Sr2CuO3. 3) A...
متن کاملLocal physics of magnetization plateaux in the Shastry-Sutherland model.
We address the physical mechanism responsible for the emergence of magnetization plateaux in the Shastry-Sutherland model. By using a hierarchical mean-field approach, we demonstrate that a plateau is stabilized in a certain spin pattern, satisfying local commensurability conditions derived from our formalism. Our results provide evidence in favor of a robust local physics nature of the plateau...
