چکیده

A synopsis of the recent results from our study of galaxygalaxy lensing in clusters is presented. We have applied our analysis techniques to the sample of HST cluster-lenses that span a redshift range from z = 0.18–0.58. We find that there is evidence that the total mass of a typical early-type cluster L galaxy increases with redshift. For the lowest redshift bin, a sensible comparison can be made with field galaxies and it is found that cluster galaxies are less massive and less extended than equivalent luminosity field galaxies. This agrees broadly with the theoretical picture of tidal stripping of dark matter halos in high density cluster environments. We also find the following trends – at a fixed luminosity both the mass-to-light ratio and the fiducial truncation radius increase with redshift from z = 0.18–0.58.

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Probing the Structure of Dark Matter in Galaxy Halos and Clusters

A new method for measuring gravitational lensing with high redshift type Ia supernovae is investigated. The method utilizes correlations between foreground galaxies and supernova brightnesses to substantially reduce possible systematic errors and increase the signal to noise ratio. It is shown that this lensing signal can be related to the mass, size and substructure of galaxy halos and galaxy ...

Truncation of galaxy dark matter halos in high density environments

Key words. Cosmology: dark mater – Galaxies: halos – Gravitational lensing Our aim is to constrain the properties of dark matter halos inhabiting high density environments, such as is the case in massive galaxy clusters. We use galaxy-galaxy lensing techniques that utilize a maximum likelihood method to constrain the parameters of the lenses. It has been demonstrated that such a technique provi...

Determining Tangential Peculiar Velocities of Clusters of Galaxies Using Gravitational Lensing

We propose two new methods for measuring tangential peculiar velocities of rich clusters of galaxies. Our first method is based on weak gravitational lensing and takes advantage of the differing images of background galaxies caused by moving and stationary gravitational potentials. Our second method is based on measuring relative frequency shifts between multiple images of a single strongly len...

Discovery of Four New Lensing Systems by Clusters in the Sdss Dr6

We report the discovery of 4 new strong lensing systems by visual inspection of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey images of galaxy clusters in Data Release 6 (SDSS DR6). Two of them show Einstein rings, and the others show tangential giant arcs. These arcs or rings have large angle separations of > 8 from the bright central galaxies and show blue color compared to the red cluster galaxies. In additi...
