Momento: Early-Stage Prototyping and Evaluation for Mobile Applications (in submission)

چکیده
While it is important that applications designed for mobile devices be iteratively tested in natural contexts (e.g., by participants in the field), it is especially difficult both to develop mobile applications and to deploy them in the field. We built a system, MObile Messaging and EvalutioN TOol (Momento), to facilitate early stage development and field testing of mobile applications. Anyone who regularly uses a mobile device that supports text or media messaging can be a participant in studies using Momento, without having to install any software. Using our tool, developers can simulate and study applications in the field for a wide array of mobile applications without any device-specific development. Thus, Momento can support early-stage, medium to largescale Wizard-of-Oz field studies of participants using their

Techniques and tools for field-based early-stage study and iteration of Ubicomp applications: A dissertation proposal
Ubicomp applications are best evaluated in field settings that capture the range of contexts and interactions that they support. But Ubicomp applications are difficult to deploy, and evaluate. We propose to contribute innovative methods and rapid prototyping tools that overcome challenges with Ubicomp evaluation in field settings. In particular, we present tools and techniques that leverage pre...
متن کاملPrototyping a Vibrato-Aware Query-By-Humming (QBH) Music Information Retrieval System for Mobile Communication Devices: Case of Chromatic Harmonica
Background and Aim: The current research aims at prototyping query-by-humming music information retrieval systems for smart phones. Methods: This multi-method research follows simulation technique from mixed models of the operations research methodology, and the documentary research method, simultaneously. Two chromatic harmonica albums comprised the research population. To achieve the purpose ...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of a Method for Partitioning and Offloading Web-based Applications in Mobile Systems with Bandwidth Constraints
Computation offloading is known to be among the effective solutions of running heavy applications on smart mobile devices. However, irregular changes of a mobile data rate have direct impacts on code partitioning when offloading is in progress. It is believed that once a rate-adaptive partitioning performed, the replication of such substantial processes due to bandwidth fluctuation can be avoid...
متن کاملDesigning for Mobile Devices: Requirements, Low-Fi Prototyping and Evaluation
This paper describes the design process of a set of ubiquitous applications for critical scenarios (e.g., psychotherapy and education). Accordingly, we address the problems that occurred on the various design stages, particularly those that pertain to the mobility and ubiquity of the devices. Regarding these, we detail the various solutions that were adopted along the way, particularly on the d...
متن کاملDesign, Evaluation and Prototyping of a New Robotic Mechanism for Ultrasound Imaging
This paper presents a new robotic mechanism for ultrasound imaging. The device is placed on a patient's body by an operator, and an ultrasound expert controls the motions of the device to obtain ultrasound images. The paper focuses on the robotic mechanism that performs ultrasound imaging. The design of the mechanism is based on two approaches to produce center of motion for an ultrasound probe...
