چکیده

On the basis of the Keldysh method of nonequilibrium systems, we develop a theory of electron tunneling in normal-metal–superconductor junctions. By using the tunneling Hamiltonian model ~being appropriate for the tight-binding systems!, the tunneling current can be exactly obtained in terms of the equilibrium Green functions of the normal metal and the superconductor. We calculate the conductance of various junctions. The discrepancy between the present treatment and the well-known scheme by Blonder, Tinkham, and Klapwijk is found for some junctions of low interfacial potential barrier.

Tuning the electron transport of molecular junctions by chemically functionalizing anchoring groups: First-principles study

In this first-principles study, we present density-functional calculations of the electronic structures and electron transport properties of organic molecular junctions with several anchoring groups containing atoms with different electronegativities, i.e., benzenediboronate (BDB), benzenedicarboxylate (BDC), and dinitrobenzene (DNB) molecular junctions sandwiched between two Cu(110) electrodes...

Calculation of Electronic Lifetimes in Molecular Junctions

We study the electronic lifetimes in molecular junctions using the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green function (NEGF) model. It is found that two characteristic time scales which govern the electron tunneling phenomena. One is the electronic lifetime in which electronic energy in the molecular electronic state dissipates into the right/left electrode or vibrational mode, the other is the residence ti...

Origin of hysteresis in a proximity josephson junction.

We investigate hysteresis in the transport properties of superconductor-normal-metal-superconductor (S-N-S) junctions at low temperatures by measuring directly the electron temperature in the normal metal. Our results demonstrate unambiguously that the hysteresis results from an increase of the normal-metal electron temperature once the junction switches to the resistive state. In our geometry,...

Too Hot for Photon-Assisted Transport: Hot-Electrons Dominate Conductance Enhancement in Illuminated Single-Molecule Junctions.

We investigate light-induced conductance enhancement in single-molecule junctions via photon-assisted transport and hot-electron transport. Using 4,4'-bipyridine bound to Au electrodes as a prototypical single-molecule junction, we report a 20-40% enhancement in conductance under illumination with 980 nm wavelength radiation. We probe the effects of subtle changes in the transmission function o...
