Model-Based Pedestrian Segmentation

چکیده

The Problem: Many video-surveillance applications involve video data of humans in scenes. To accurately describe the location, action, and appearance of humans under video surveillance, we need to segment the people from the scene. We propose to use a model-based approach to segment humans from the scene. We are in particular interested in pedestrians from video data. A good segmentation will allow us to estimate accurately the limb sizes, posture, and orientations, making possible applications such as identification of people by their walking appearance, and understanding human activities on an individual level.

Improving Hough Based Pedestrian Detection Accuracy by Using Segmentation and Pose Subspaces

The Hough voting framework is a popular approach to parts based pedestrian detection. It works by allowing image features to vote for the positions and scales of pedestrians within a test image. Each vote is cast independently from other votes, which allows for strong occlusion robustness. However this approach can produce false pedestrian detections by accumulating votes inconsistent with each...

Alternative Ordered Response Frameworks for Examining Pedestrian Injury Severity in New York City

This paper focuses on identifying the appropriate ordered response structure for modeling pedestrian injury severity. The alternative ordered response approaches considered for the empirical analysis include: ordered logit model (OL), generalized ordered logit model (GOL) and latent segmentation based ordered logit model (LSOL). The GOL and LSOL models enhance the traditional OL model in differ...

A Variational Framework for Pedestrian Segmentation in Cluttered Scenes Using Bag of Optical Flows and Shape Priors

In this thesis, we present a framework for segmentation of pedestrians in videos. Traditional image segmentation algorithms have relied on learning an appearance model for the regions of interest in an image and using that model to segment new images. However, large variations in the appearance of pedestrians due to differences in clothing makes it impossible to learn a reliable appearance mode...

A Study of Pedestrian Movement on Crosswalks Based on Chaos Theory

Walking, as an important transportation mode, plays a large part in urban transportation systems. This mode is of great importance for planners and decision-makers because of its impact on environmental and health aspects of communities. However, this mode is so complex in nature that makes it difficult to study or model. On the other hand, chaos theory studies complex dynamical nonlinear syste...

Thermal Infrared Pedestrian Image Segmentation Using Level Set Method

The edge-based active contour model has been one of the most influential models in image segmentation, in which the level set method is usually used to minimize the active contour energy function and then find the desired contour. However, for infrared thermal pedestrian images, the traditional level set-based method that utilizes the gradient information as edge indicator function fails to pro...
