چکیده
We analyze the unbiased black-box complexity of jump functions with small, medium, and large sizes of the fitness plateau surrounding the optimal solution. Among other results, we show that when the jump size is (1/2−ε)n, that is, only a small constant fraction of the fitness values is visible, then the unbiased black-box complexities for arities 3 and higher are of the same order as those for the simple OneMax function. Even for the extreme jump function, in which all but the two fitness values n/2 and n are blanked out, polynomial-time mutation-based (i.e., unary unbiased) black-box optimization algorithms exist. This is quite surprising given that for the extreme jump function almost the whole search space (all but a Θ(n) fraction) is a plateau of constant fitness. To prove these results, we introduce new tools for the analysis of unbiased black-box complexities, for example, selecting the new parent individual not by comparing the fitnesses of the competing search points, but also by taking into account the (empirical) expected fitnesses of their offspring.

متن کاملBlack-Box Complexity: Breaking the O(n logn) Barrier of LeadingOnes
We show that the unrestricted black-box complexity of the n-dimensional XORand permutation-invariant LeadingOnes function class is O(n log(n)/ log logn). This shows that the recent natural looking O(n logn) bound is not tight. The black-box optimization algorithm leading to this bound can be implemented in a way that only 3-ary unbiased variation operators are used. Hence our bound is also vali...
متن کاملImproved Bounds on Quantum Learning Algorithms
In this article we give several new results on the complexity of algorithms that learn Boolean functions from quantum queries and quantum examples. • Hunziker et al. [17] conjectured that for any class C of Boolean functions, the number of quantum black-box queries which are required to exactly identify an unknown function from C is at most O( log |C| √ γ̂ ), where γ̂ is a combinatorial parameter...
متن کاملOptimization of Fermentation Time for Iranian Black Tea Production
The optimum fermentation times of black tea manufactured by two systems of Orthodox and CTC (cut, tear & curl) were investigated by measuring the quality parameters of black tea, like: theaflavin, thearubigin, highly polymerized substances and total liquid colour during the fermentation stage. Optimum fermentation times from the beginning of fermentation were determined to be 60 min and 15...
متن کاملA note on quantum black-box complexity of almost all Boolean functions
We show that, for almost all N -variable Boolean functions f , N/4 − O( √ N log N) queries are required to compute f in quantum black-box model with bounded error.
