Random Projection: A New Approach to VLSI Layout
نویسنده
چکیده
We show that random projection, the technique of projecting a set of points to a randomly chosen low-dimensional subspace, can be used to solve problems in VLSI layout. Specifically, for the problem of laying out a graph on a 2-dimensional grid so as to minimize the maximum edge length, we obtain an O(log3:5 n) approximation algorithm (this is the first o(n) approximation), and for the bicriteria problem of minimizing the total edge length while keeping the maximum length bounded, we obtain an O(log3 n; log3:5 n) approximation. Our algorithms also work for d-dimensional versions of these problems (for any fixed d) with polylog approximation guarantees. Besides random projection, the main components of the algorithms are a linear programming relaxation, and volumerespecting Euclidean embeddings (introduced by Feige).

A speed-oriented, fully-automatic layout program for random logic VLSI devices
This paper describes a low cost, quick turnaround capability for generating high performance, random logic LSI and VLSI devices using the Standard Cell approach. This standard cell approach, described below, utilizes a fully automatic layout capability that automatically maximizes the speed of logic paths identified by the user as critical. In spite of the sophistication and size of the automat...
متن کاملA hybrid CS-SA intelligent approach to solve uncertain dynamic facility layout problems considering dependency of demands
This paper aims at proposing a quadratic assignment-based mathematical model to deal with the stochastic dynamic facility layout problem. In this problem, product demands are assumed to be dependent normally distributed random variables with known probability density function and covariance that change from period to period at random. To solve the proposed model, a novel hybrid intelligent algo...
متن کاملRandom Projection-Based Anderson-Darling Test for Random Fields
In this paper, we present the Anderson-Darling (AD) and Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) goodness of fit statistics for stationary and non-stationary random fields. Namely, we adopt an easy-to-apply method based on a random projection of a Hilbert-valued random field onto the real line R, and then, applying the well-known AD and KS goodness of fit tests. We conclude this paper by studying the behavior o...
متن کاملAn efficient approach for solving layout problems
This paper offers an approach that could be useful for diverse types of layout problems or even area allocation problems. By this approach there is no need to large number of discrete variables and only by few continues variables large-scale layout problems could be solved in polynomial time. This is resulted from dividing area into discrete and continuous dimensions. Also defining decision var...
متن کاملVLSI Layout of Benes Networks
The Benes network consists of back-to-back butterflies. There exist a number of topological representations that are used to describe butterfly like architectures. We identify a new topological representation of Benes network. The significance of this representation is demonstrated by solving two problems, one related to VLSI layout and the other related to robotics. An important VLSI layout ne...
