چکیده

Dimensional Discrepancies Overrolling of Debris Corrosion Other Fatigue Absrrucr-The development of an in-line, full flow oil debris sensor for aircraft engine condition assessment is described. First used on the F22 fighter, this sensor is the only “ all-metals” debris detector in production. The sensor is based on an inductive measurement technique which enables the system to detect, count and classify wear metal particles by size and type (ferromagnetic and nonferromagnetic) above a minimum particle size threshold. In flight, the measured count values are compared to preset levels to provide prognostic health information on the oilwetted components of the engine. This paper describes the sensor design requirements, principle of operation, electronic design and mechanical design features. The results of a test program established to correlate the oil borne debris measurements to component degradation characteristics and data from actual engine bearing failures, are also presented.

Characteristics Study of In-Situ Capacitive Sensor for Monitoring Lubrication Oil Debris

As an essential part of engine health monitoring (EHM), online lubrication oil debris monitoring has recently received great attention for the assessment of rotating and reciprocating parts in aero-engines, due to its high integration, low cost and safe characteristics. However, it is be a challenge to find a suitable sensor operating in such a complex environment. We present an unconventional ...

On-line Condition Monitoring and Remote Fault Diagnosis for Marine Diesel Engines Using Tribological Information

Literature review indicates that a large amount of failures are caused by abnormal wear of the diesel engine components. It is therefore essential to monitor the engine condition using the tribological information. Although the wear debris analysis has been proven to be effective for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis (CMFD) of diesel engines, limited work has been done to address the rem...

Electrostatic wear monitoring of rolling element bearings

Research and development work at the University of Southampton using an electrostatic condition monitoring system developed by Smiths Aerospace Information Systems has shown that electrostatic charge signals can be used to detect the onset of wear in lubricated tribo-contacts. Preliminary investigations have already demonstrated the viability of this system when tested on a laboratory-based pin...

Oil Debris Signal Detection Based on Integral Transform and Empirical Mode Decomposition

Oil debris signal generated from the inductive oil debris monitor (ODM) is useful information for machine condition monitoring but is often spoiled by background noise. To improve the reliability in machine condition monitoring, the high-fidelity signal has to be recovered from the noisy raw data. Considering that the noise components with large amplitude often have higher frequency than that o...

Viscosity Index Improver for Engine Oils: An Experimental Study

Engine oils are widely used for lubrication purposes in automobile and related industries. Viscosity Index (VI) improver has found its largest commercial applications as additives to engine oils. Examples are power steering fluid, aircraft piston engine oils, modern internal-combustion engines, turbine engine oils (stationary and aircraft), and industrial gear oils. Viscosity Index improvers ar...
