Materials and Methods: The following CT features were analyzed to compare FTCs (n = 17) and PTCs (n = 27): size, shape, margin, internal composition, calcification, enhancement homogeniety, extrathyroidal extension, lymph node (LN) metastasis and the density and degree of enhancement (qualitatively and quantitatively). Results: There were no significant differences between the patients with FTCs and those with PTCs with respect to age and gender, and the internal composition, calcification and enhancement homogeneity of the tumor. However, the FTCs tend to show a larger size (32 mm vs. 15 mm; respectively, p < 0.001), a round to oval shape (52.9% vs. 14.8% respectively, p = 0.001), a well-defined smooth margin (58.8% vs. 14.8% respectively, p = 0.009), less extrathyroidal extension (11.8% vs. 51.9% respectively, p = 0.007) and less LN metastasis (0% vs. 29.6% respectively, p = 0.016) compared to that of the PTCs. Furthermore, the FTCs showed significantly stronger enhancement in the early phase (146.4±42.4 vs. 98.5±38.2 respectively, p < 0.001) and a greater decrement of the late enhancement (-44.6±25.2 vs. -18.7±27.9 respectively, p = 0.003) compared to that of the PTCs. Conclusion: FTCs had a tendency to be observed on neck CT as well-defined, smooth, round to oval nodules with strong early enhancement and a definite decrement of late enhancement as compared to the PTCs.

Introduction: Synovial sarcoma makes up 8–10% of all soft tissue sarcomas, and constitutes 3–10% of all sarcomas occurring in the head and neck region. It shows male predominance (3:2), and the mean age of presentation is 30 years. Case Report: A 51-year-old gentleman presented with right-sided neck swelling which had been progressively increasing in size for the past 2 years. A computed ...

Mixed medullary and follicular or papillary carcinoma of thyroid is an extremely rare tumor, characterized by coexistence of morphological and immunohistochemical features of both medullary carcinoma and follicular (or papillary) carcinoma. This case report describes for the first time in the indexed database a late recurrence of a medullary thyroid carcinoma initially diagnosed as follicular-p...
متن کاملBilateral Orbital Metastasis of Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma: a Rare Case Report
Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is the second most common type of thyroid cancer after papillary carcinoma. It usually grows slowly and is clinically indolent; but rarely, its aggressive forms with distant metastases can occur. We report here an uncommon case of bilateral orbital metastasis of FTC. A 70-year-old woman present...
متن کاملPapillary Thyroid Carcinoma Presenting As a Cystic Neck Lesion: Case Series
Introduction: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) constitutes 75–85% of all thyroid cancers. PTC usually presents as a subtle, commonly slow-growing, painless thyroid mass or a solitary nodule in the neck. This presentation of a cystic neck lump, without the presence of a thyroid nodule, may imitate the course of a benign disease, thus delaying diagnosis and proper treatment. Case Report: Thr...

Warthin-like papillary carcinoma of the thyroid is a recently described variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma characterized histologically by a papillary structure and oxyphilic tumor cells in a chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis background. In this article, a tumoral mass of a 19-year-old female was studied cytologically and histologically. The patient complained of neck mass and was operated as...

Nodules in the thyroid have always commanded a great deal of attention because of the fear of their being cancerous. The estimated incidence of thyroid nodules in children and young adults is about 0.22 to 1.8 percent. According to different epidemiological data, about 10 to 35 percent of thyroid cancers occur in the first two decades. The present study based on microscopic review of tissue sli...
