Multimodal and Multichannel Issues in Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing

چکیده
For the general public, the year 1984 marks the emergence of WIMP (Windows, Icon, Menu, Pointing device) interfaces. Developed at Xerox PARC in 1973 and popularized by the Macintosh, this type of graphical user interfaces is still largely used today, on most computers. However, in recent years, numerous scientific researches focus on post-WIMP interfaces. It is no longer limited to a single way of interacting with a computer system, but considering the different solutions to offer user interfaces as natural as possible. With the introduction of many types of mobile devices, such as cellphones, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), pocket PC, and the rise of their capabilities (Wifi, GPS, RFID, NFC...) designing and deploying mobile interactive software that optimize the human-computer interaction has become a fundamental challenge. Modern terminals are natively equipped with many input and output resources needed for multimodal interactions, such AbsTRACT

A Pervasive Multimodal Tele-Home Healthcare System
This paper proposes a Human-centered Pervasive Computing System Model (HPC), a Layered Architectural Analysis and Design Method (LAAD) and a Waterfall Prototyping Process Model (WPP). Based on the HPC model and the LAAD method, a pervasive computing based multimodal tele-home healthcare system is designed and partly implemented using the Waterfall Prototyping Process. The design and implementat...
متن کاملFormalization of Multimodal Languages in Pervasive Computing Paradigm
The increasing need to access information everywhere and at any time leads us to believe that future user interfaces, through which users interact with pervasive computing systems, must enable both device and modality independence. The pervasive computing paradigm sees almost every object in the everyday environment as a system able to communicate with users and other systems in their own langu...
متن کاملProactive Assistance Within Ambient Environment
User needs are expanding and becoming more and more complex with the emergence of newly adopted technologies. As a result, the convergence of smart devices, having the capability to communicate as well as sharing information and ensuring user need satisfaction, leads to profoundly change the way we interact with our environment. They should provide an adaptive assistance in both reactive and pr...
متن کاملContext-awareness and Multimodality
User interfaces must adapt to the growing dissemination of computing power in our everyday environment. Computing devices and applications are now used beyond the desktop. Mobile, wearable, and pervasive computing allow users to integrate computing in the flow of their activities in the physical world. But most of our systems are still deaf and blind to anything that isn’t explicitly input by t...
متن کاملChallenge: Distributed Sensing Applications in Highly Heterogeneous and Multimodal Pervasive Environments
Background Dr. Di Francesco has been working in the field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for several years, with specific focus on energy-efficient mechanisms for data collection and dissemination [1]. He investigated how different sensing modalities and acquisition strategies can improve the quality of information and the energy-efficiency in WSNs [2]. He also considered urban sensing scen...
