Optimization of Elliptical SRF Cavities for β < 1
نویسنده
چکیده
Elliptical superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities are widely used for accelerating electrons and positrons that travel close to the speed of light (β = v/c ≈ 1). For the acceleration of heavier particles, such as protons and ions, β can be considerably less than one. In these cases there are many different cavity designs used, with the choice depending upon the respective goals and constraints of the accelerator [1]. However, if β is not too low it is still effective to utilize an elliptical SRF cavity, which is desirable due to the simplicity of its shape, and, as a result, lower cost of production.

Minimizing the RF Fields on the Surface of an SRF Cavity by Optimizing its Shape
Accelerating gradients in SRF cavities have consistently been increasing in recent years, largely due to better surface preparation techniques. This makes the critical magnetic eld, at which the cavity loses its superconductivity, a very important limit to address. We worked to minimize the peak magnetic eld Hpk on the surface of the cavity with respect to the acceleration rate Eacc. Allowing t...
متن کاملHigh-current Srf Cavity Design
For high current applications, it is desirable for the cavity shape to have a low longitudinal loss factor and to have a high beam-breakup threshold current. This paper briefly describes three different cavities designed for this purpose: a six-cell elliptical cavity for particles traveling at the speed of light, a two-cell elliptical cavity for subluminal particle speeds, and a single cell cav...
متن کاملBERLinPro 7-CELL SRF CAVITY OPTIMIZATION AND HOMs EXTERNAL QUALITY FACTORS ESTIMATION
The main scope of this work is the optimization of the Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) accelerating cavity design for the Berlin Energy Recovery Linac Project (BERLinPro). BERLinPro shall serve as a demonstrator for 100-mA-class Energy Recovery Liniac (ERL) with CW LINAC technology. High-current operation requires an effective damping of Higher-OrderModes (HOMs) of the 1.3 GHz main-linac ...

متن کاملEigenmode Computation for Elliptical Cavities Subject to Geometric Variations Using Perturbative Methods∗
Parametric studies of geometric variations are an essential part of the performance optimization and error estimation in the design of accelerator cavities. Using common eigenmode solvers the analysis of intentional and undesired geometric perturbations tend to be very extensive since any geometric variation involves an entire eigenmode recomputation. Perturbative methods constitute an efficien...
