Further dopaminergic supersensitivity to dopamine agonists by subchronic administration of haloperidol in rats treated with colchicine.

چکیده
Effects of subchronic administration of haloperidol on the circling behavior induced by dopamine agonists were examined in rats treated with colchicine. Methamphetamine and apomorphine produced contralateral or ipsilateral rotation in colchicine-treated rats, and these circling behaviors were significantly increased by subchronic treatment with haloperidol. These results suggest that development of supersensitivity following colchicine and subchronic haloperidol may occur through different mechanisms.

Acute buspirone abolishes the expression of behavioral dopaminergic supersensitivity in mice.
Previous studies have shown that rats withdrawn from long-term treatment with dopamine receptor blockers exhibit dopaminergic supersensitivity, which can be behaviorally evaluated by enhanced general activity observed in an open-field. Recently, it has been reported that co-treatment with the non-benzodiazepine anxiolytic buspirone attenuates the development of haloperidol-induced dopaminergic ...
متن کاملAntipsychotic treatment leading to dopamine supersensitivity persistently alters nucleus accumbens function.
Chronic exposure to some antipsychotic medications can induce supersensitivity to dopamine receptor stimulation. This is linked to a worsening of clinical outcome and to antipsychotic treatment failure. Here we investigated the role of striatal subregions [nucleus accumbens (NAc) and caudate-putamen (CPu)] in the expression of antipsychotic-induced dopamine supersensitivity. We treated rats wit...

Although the time-course of development of dopaminergic supersensitivity has received some attention, there is little or no information on the rate of development of dopamine/neuroleptic receptors in the first days of neuroleptic treatment. For example, Christensen et al. ...
متن کاملInvestigation of the failure of parenterally administered haloperidol to antagonize dopamine released from micropipettes in the caudate.
An anomaly in the experimental data underlying the theory that neuroleptics act by blockade of dopaminergic neurotransmission is the repeatedly demonstrated failure in several laboratories of parenterally administered neuroleptics to antagonize electrophysiologic actions of locally applied dopamine (DA) in striatum. This failure is enigmatic since many investigators have successfully demonstrat...
متن کاملIncreased sensitivity of adenylate cyclase activity in the striatum of the rat to calmodulin and GppNHp after chronic treatment with haloperidol.
Chronic treatment of rats with haloperidol causes behavioral supersensitivity to dopaminergic agonists and an increase in the sensitivity of adenylate cyclase activity in the striatum to stimulation by dopamine. In this study the authors examined whether chronic treatment with haloperidol could elicit a change in sensitivity of adenylate cyclase in the striatum of the rat for guanyl nucleotides...
