چکیده

High-resolution temporal observations performed with the SUMER spectrometer on SoHO provide an opportunity to investigate the electron density variations in thèquiet Sun' solar transition region due to UV transient events. Two datasets obtained in the density sensitive lines belonging to the O iv 1400 A multiplet were searched for such events, leading to the identiication of two explosive events, on 1996 July 10 and 1997 May 31. In both cases, the O iv 1401:16/1404:81 density sensitive line intensity ratio shows a clear variation, corresponding to enhancements in the electron density by factors of 3. This is fully consistent with recent 2.5D MHD simulations. The 1996 July 10 dataset also provided us with the opportunity to monitor the behaviour of the electron density through an UV blinker. Despite an increase of a factor of two in the line intensities, no variation of the electron density was found. This suggests that the intensity enhancement is due to an increase in the lling factor.

GALEX high time-resolution ultraviolet observations of dMe flare events

Aims. We present near ultraviolet (NUV:1750 2800Å) and far ultraviolet (FUV: 1350 1750Å) light-curves for flares on 4 nearby dMe-type stars (GJ 3685A, CR Dra, AF Psc and SDSS J084425.9+513830.5) observed with the GALEX satellite. Methods. Taking advantage of the time-tagged events recorded with the GALEX photon counting detectors, we present high temporal resolution (< 0.01 sec) analysis of the...

Response of conifers to UV-B and climate in mountain areas

The present study was focused to examine the combined effects of climate and ultraviolet-B radiation on conifer tree-ring density. Statistical methods were employed to extract tree responses in annual ring density and to identify functional relationship in trees when the level of ultraviolet-B radiation changes regardless of climate variations. In this study, the consideration was given to the ...

Effects of spatial non‐uniformity of streamer discharges on spectroscopic diagnostics of peak electric fields in transient luminous events

[1] The electric fields associated with streamer discharges in transient luminous events (TLEs) have been recentlymeasured by considering the ratios of spatially integrated radiation intensities of band systems with different energy excitation thresholds. Following recent work by Naidis (2009) we demonstrate that due to strong spatial variations of the electron density and electric field in str...

Tomographic Reconstruction of the Ionospheric Electron Density in term of Wavelets

Ionospheric tomography is a method to investigate the ionospheric electron density in two or three dimensions. In this study, the function-based tomographic technique has been used for regional reconstruction of a 3D tomographic model of the ionospheric electron density using the GPS measurements of the Iranian Permanent GPS Network. Two-dimensional Haar wavelets and empirical orthogonal functi...

Free electron laser-driven ultrafast rearrangement of the electronic structure in Ti

High-energy density extreme ultraviolet radiation delivered by the FERMI seeded free-electron laser has been used to create an exotic nonequilibrium state of matter in a titanium sample characterized by a highly excited electron subsystem at temperatures in excess of 10 eV and a cold solid-density ion lattice. The obtained transient state has been investigated through ultrafast absorption spect...
