User-centred Design for an Open-source 3-D Articulatory Synthesizer
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe our research direction to build a 3-D articulatory speech synthesizer. We are employing a usercentred design approach to develop the synthesizer. The end result will be added to the open-source research community. The system infrastructure we are planning is expected to allow for easy integration of current and future research results in vocal tract modelling and vocal sound production. In this paper, we identify the tasks that the speech synthesizer will support and the interface for using the speech synthesizer. Further, we hope that this paper will provide a call for participation from fellow researchers to contribute their results to this project.

متن کاملAdding fricatives to the portuguese articulatory synthesiser
First attempts at incorporating models of frication into an articulatory synthesizer, with a modular and flexible design, are presented. Although the synthesizer allows the user to choose different combinations of source types, noise volume velocity sources have been used to generate turbulence. Preliminary results indicate that the model is capturing essential characteristics of the transfer f...
متن کاملThe history of articulatory synthesis at Haskins laboratories
Articulatory synthesis is a computational technique for synthesizing speech by controlling the shape of the vocal tract over time. Research at Haskins Laboratories on articulatory synthesis began with the arrival of Paul Mermelstein in the early 1970s. While at Bell Laboratories, Mermelstein had developed a vocal tract model that is often referred to as the Mermelstein model [1]. This model is ...
متن کاملSimulation of Human Speech Production Applied to the Study and Synthesis of European Portuguese
A new articulatory synthesizer (SAPWindows), with a modular and flexible design, is described. A comprehensive acoustic model and a new interactive glottal source were implemented. Perceptual tests and simulations made possible by the synthesizer contributed to deepen our knowledge of one of the most important characteristics of European Portuguese, the nasal vowels. First attempts at incorpora...
متن کاملUsabilityNet Methods for User Centred Design
There is a wide variety of conflicting guidance available on appropriate methods to use to support user centred design. The ISO 13407 standard provides a framework for applying user centred design, without stipulating which methods should be used. Based on wide experience of EC and commercial projects, the TRUMP and UsabilityNet projects selected sets of methods to support ISO 13407 that have b...
