Effects of Mobile solutions for Improving Business Processes

Mobile technology offers new possibilities for the improvement of business processes and enables new process designs. The aim of this paper is to identify the possible effects that can be achieved when applying mobile technology for business process improvement as well as their enablers. For that purpose, a structured literature research was conducted to identify relevant case studies where mobile business processes are described. As a result, the paper provides an overview of potential benefits resulting from the mobilization of business processes. Based on observations in real-life cases, general propositions about the interdependencies between the effects, the influencing factors and the application scenarios are derived. Thereby, a number of groups sharing specific effects and enablers could be classified. The findings can serve as an input for developing a model that describes and predicts the anticipated effects when implementing mobile solutions for business process improvement. Practitioners benefit as they can use the findings to better evaluate and select appropriate mobile solutions in a business process improvement initiative.
