Perturbation Analysis for Denumerable Markov Chains with Application to Queueing Models

چکیده
We study the parametric perturbation of Markov chains with denumerable state spaces. We consider both regular and singular perturbations. By the latter wemean that transition probabilities of aMarkov chain, with several ergodic classes, are perturbed such that (rare) transitions among the different ergodic classes of the unperturbed chain are allowed. Singularly perturbed Markov chains have been studied in the literature under more restrictive assumptions such as strong recurrence ergodicity or Doeblin conditions. We relax these conditions so that our results can be applied to queueing models (where the conditions mentioned above typically fail to hold). Assuming ν-geometric ergodicity, we are able to explicitly express the steady-state distribution of the perturbed Markov chain as a Taylor series in the perturbation parameter. We apply our results to quasi-birth-anddeath processes and queueing models.

Monotonicity and Convexity of Some Functions Associated with Denumerable Markov Chains and Their Applications to Queueing Systems
Motivated by various applications in queueing theory, this paper is devoted to the monotonicity and convexity of some functions associated with discrete-time or continuous-time denumerable Markov chains. For the discrete-time case, conditions for the monotonicity and convexity of the functions are obtained by using the properties of stochastic dominance and monotone matrix. For the continuous-t...
متن کاملSmoothed perturbation analysis derivative estimation for Markov chains
Using the technique of smoothed perturbation analysis, we consider steady-state performance measures for continuous-time Markov chains and derive a derivative estimator that can be estimated from a single sample path of the chain under consideration. The estimator is applicable to multi-class queueing networks, for which previous in nitesimal perturbation analysis estimators failed. A simple mu...
متن کاملEvaluation of First and Second Markov Chains Sensitivity and Specificity as Statistical Approach for Prediction of Sequences of Genes in Virus Double Strand DNA Genomes
Growing amount of information on biological sequences has made application of statistical approaches necessary for modeling and estimation of their functions. In this paper, sensitivity and specificity of the first and second Markov chains for prediction of genes was evaluated using the complete double stranded DNA virus. There were two approaches for prediction of each Markov Model parameter,...
متن کاملThe ODE method for stability of skip-free Markov chains with applications to MCMC
Fluid limit techniques have become a central tool to analyze queueing networks over the last decade, with applications to performance analysis, simulation and optimization. In this paper, some of these techniques are extended to a general class of skip-free Markov chains. As in the case of queueing models, a fluid approximation is obtained by scaling time, space and the initial condition by a l...
متن کاملAlgorithms for sensitivity analysis of Markov systems through potentials and perturbation realization
We provide algorithms to compute the performance derivatives of Markov chains with respect to changes in their transition matrices and of Markov processes with respect to changes in their infinitesimal generators. Our algorithms are readily applicable to the control and optimization of these Markov systems, since they are based on analyzing a single sample path and do not need explicit specific...
