چکیده

hallucinations is unusual for intoxication with atropine or scopolamine, but could be explained by delayed digestion of non-ground Jimson weed seeds. Postprandial ‘inability to vomit’, followed by unconsciousness and auditory hallucinations, as reported by this patient, clearly is consistent with tropane alkaloid poisoning, and, together with laboratory results (50 seeds D. stramonium/kg of grain), confirm contamination by Jimson weed to be the cause of this event. Foodborne disease outbreaks are recognized by the occurrence of illness within a variable but usually short time period after a meal, among individuals who have consumed foods in common. Prompt and thorough laboratory evaluation of cases and implicated foods is essential. Food poisoning due to Jimson weed may mimic B. cereus food intoxication and therefore should be considered as a differential diagnosis. The increasing propagation of organic farming with the refusal to use pesticides may increase the occurrence of food poisoning due to Jimson weed in the future. Conflict of interest: No conflict of interest to declare.

Multidrug-resistant urinary tract isolates of escherichia coli from Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil.

Multiple resistances to antimicrobial drugs arising in Escherichia coli isolates may complicate therapeutic management of urinary tract infection (UTI) by this organism. In order to assess the multidrug resistance (MDR) among urinary E. coli isolates, we have tested 11 antimicrobial drugs against 67 isolates from outpatients attended in a tertiary-care teaching hospital and of 78 isolates from ...

Prevalence of aac(3)-IIa, aph(3)-Ia and ant(2)- Ia Genes among Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli Isolates

Abstract Background and Objective: Escherichia coli, one of the most common causative agents of urinary tract infections (UTIs) acquired from community and hospital, has developed multiple resistances to various antibiotics such as aminoglycosides. The main resistance mechanism to aminoglycosides is inactivation of these drugs by a variety of acetyltransferase, nucleotidyltransferase, and phosp...

Prevalence of blaCTX-M1, blaCTX-M14 and blaCTX-M15 Genes among Escherichia ColiIsolated from Urinary Tract Infections in Outpatients, Kermanshah City, Iran

Background and Aims: The rate of urinary tract infection caused by the extended-spectrum-β-lactamase- (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) is increasing worldwide. This study aimed to assess the frequency of blaCTX-M genes in the E. coli isolated from urinary tract infection (UTI) in outpatients. Methods: 240 E. coli bacteria were isolated from the outpatients’ urine samples in the Kerma...

Resistance to Aminoglycoside Antibiotics in Escherichia coli Isolated from Urinary Tract Infection in Iran in 2000-2012: A Systematic Review

Background and Objectives: Resistance to aminoglycosides has become a major problem in the treatment of urinary tract infection due to the extensive use of this antibiotic group. Due to the increased resistance of Escherichia coli to aminoglycosides, this study systematically evaluated the resistance to aminoglycosides by Escherichia coli isolated from urinary tract infection (UTI) in Ira...

A comparative study of the prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamaseproducing Escherichia coli among urinary and fecal Escherichia coli isolates of women with urinary tract infection in Kerman city

Background & Aim: Important challenge for treatment of urinary tract infections is the spread of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) producing Escherichia coli. Therefore, the frequencies of main beta-lactamase genes, resistance to beta-lactams and the ability of ESBLs production in urinary and fecal Escherichia coli of women with urinary tract infections were compared. Methods: In 60 Es...
