چکیده

In this paper, a framework is proposed to analyse the problems of connectivity and performance in ad-hoc networks through an analytical approach. To this aim, available results about the application of the percolation theory to the study of connectivity in ad-hoc network are exploited jointly with communication theory models in order to derive the configuration of the network parameters that ensures long range connectivity among nodes and the corresponding available capacity on the wireless medium. The framework is then applied to a slotted ALOHA adhoc network. Theoretical and numerical results validate the approach and allow the derivation of interesting design principles for ad-hoc networks that consider the impact of physical and MAClevel parameters on network connectivity and end-to-end performance. Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Proposed ST-Slotted-CS-ALOHA Protocol for Time Saving and Collision Avoidance

Time Saving and energy consumption has become a vital issue that attracts the attention of researchers in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) fields. According to that, there is a strong need to improve MAC protocols performance in UWSNs, particularly enhancing the effectiveness of ALOHA Protocol. In this paper, a time-saving Aloha protocol with slotted carrier sense proposed which we c...

Improving LoRaWAN Performance Using Reservation ALOHA

LoRaWAN is one of the new and updated standards for IoT applications. However, the expected high density of peripheral devices for each gateway, and the absence of an operative synchronization mechanism between the gateway and peripherals, all of which challenges the networks scalability. In this paper, we propose to normalize the communication of LoRaWAN networks using a Reservation-ALOHA (R-A...

Stochastic analysis of Aloha in vehicular ad hoc networks

The aim of this paper is to study the Aloha medium access (MAC) scheme in one-dimensional, linear networks, which might be an appropriate assumption for Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks (VANETs). We study performance metrics based on the signal-over-interference and noise ratio (SINR) assuming power-law mean path-loss and independent point-to-point fading. We derive closed formulas for the capture pro...

The Challenge of a Future Slotted Standard for Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks

This chapter is about alternative MAC solutions for VANETs, based on a synchronous, slotted philosophy. After highlighting the limitation of the incumbent CSMA/CA solution, the chapter explains the rationale for a slotted standard and briefly introduces the three solutions found in literature (namely MS-Aloha, D-TDMA and STDMA). In particular, one of them, MS-Aloha, seems particularly rich in f...
