چکیده

Multi-Agent Coordination: Theory and Applications by Jianghai Hu Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering University of California at Berkeley Professor Shankar Sastry, Chair We study the problem of optimal multi-agent coordination and related applications. The dissertation consists of three parts. In the first part, the problem of optimal coordinated motions for multiple agents moving on a plane is studied. In the second part, we study the optimal resolution maneuvers for multiple aircraft flying in three dimensional airspace. In the last part, the problem of optimal collision avoidance and formation switching on Riemannian manifold is studied. In all three parts, the motions of the participating agents need to satisfy some separation constraints, while the underlying space that the agents move on is two dimensional Euclidean space, three dimensional Euclidean space, and general Riemannian manifolds, respectively. We try to find the optimal coordinated motions that minimize a certain energy cost function. Various necessary conditions for the optimal solutions are obtained and numerical alogithms are proposed to compute them.

Voltage Coordination of FACTS Devices in Power Systems Using RL-Based Multi-Agent Systems

This paper describes how multi-agent system technology can be used as the underpinning platform for voltage control in power systems. In this study, some FACTS (flexible AC transmission systems) devices are properly designed to coordinate their decisions and actions in order to provide a coordinated secondary voltage control mechanism based on multi-agent theory. Each device here is modeled as ...

The STL++ Coordination Language: Application to Simulating the Automation of a Trading System

Coordination theory introduced by Malone [6] is concerned with the management of dependencies between di erent activities. Tenets developed in this theory encompass conceptual and methodological aspects that enable a distributed application to have a better expressiveness and to be much more easily implemented, through a clear separation between coordination and computation [3]. In computer sci...

Agent Architectures for Flexible, Practical Teamwork

Teamwork in complex, dynamic, multi-agent domains mandates highly flexible coordination and communication. Simply fitting individual agents with precomputed coordination plans will not do, for their inflexibility can cause severe failures in teamwork, and their domain-specificity hinders reusability. Our central hypothesis is that the key to such flexibility and reusability is agent architectur...

A multi agent method for cell formation with uncertain situation, based on information theory

This paper assumes the cell formation problem as a distributed decision network. It proposes an approach based on application and extension of information theory concepts, in order to analyze informational complexity in an agent- based system, due to interdependence between agents. Based on this approach, new quantitative concepts and definitions are proposed in order to measure the amount of t...

Synchronization of multi-agent systems

There is currently great interest in the control of multi-agent networked systems. Applications include mobile sensor networks, teleoperation, synchronization of oscillators, UAV's and coordination of multiple robots. In this talk we consider the output synchronization of networked dynamic agents using passivity theory and considering the graph topology of the inter-agent communication. We prov...
