Singlet magnetism in heavy fermions.

چکیده
We consider singlet magnetism for the uranium ions in UPt3 and URu2Si2 assuming that time-reversal symmetry is broken for the coherent state of intermediate valence. The relative weight of the two involved configurations should be different for UPt3 and URu2Si2. If in UPt3 the configuration 5f 1 on the U-ion prevails in the coherent state below the magnetic transition, the magnetic moment would vanish for the particular choice of the ionic wave function. In case of URu2Si2, the phase transition is non-magnetic in the first approximation – the magnetic moment arises from a small admixture of a half-integer spin configuration. Majorana fermions in spin-singlet nodal superconductors with coexisting noncollinear magnetic order.
Realizations of Majorana fermions in solid state materials have attracted great interest recently in connection to topological order and quantum information processing. We propose a novel way to create Majorana fermions in superconductors. We show that an incipient noncollinear magnetic order turns a spin-singlet superconductor with nodes into a topological superconductor with a stable Majorana...
متن کاملMagnetism and superconductivity of heavy fermion matter
The interplay of magnetism and unconventional superconductivity (d singlet wave or p triplet wave) in strongly correlated electronic system (SCES) is discussed with recent examples found in heavy fermion compounds. A short presentation is given on the formation of the heavy quasiparticle with the two sources of a local and intersite enhancement for the effective mass. Two cases of the coexisten...
متن کاملInterplay of Superconductivity and Magnetism in the Two Dimensional Kondo Lattice Model
Since the original discovery of heavy fermion behavior in the late seventies by Andres et al. [1], heavy fermions keep attracting scientific interest due to their exotic and unusual properties. These are inter-metallic compounds that contain rare earth elements, like cerium, praseodymium, and ytterbium, and actinides like uranium. The term “heavy” refers to their large effective electronic mass...
