On cost-aware biased respondent group selection for minority opinion survey

چکیده
This paper discusses a new approach to use a specially constructed social relation graph with high homophily to select a survey respondent group under a limited budget such that the result of the survey is biased to the minority opinions. This approach has a wide range of potential applications, e.g. collecting diversified complaints from the customers while most of them are satisfied, but is hardly investigated. We formulate the problem of computing such a group as the p-biased-representative selection problem (pBRSP), where p represents the size of the group constraint by the available budget. This problem has two independent optimization goals and therefore is difficult to deal with. We introduce two polynomial time algorithms for the problem, where each of which has an approximation ratio with respect to each of the objectives when the other optimization objective is substituted with a constraint. Under the substituted constraint, we prove

Biased Respondent Group Selection Under Limited Budget for Minority Opinion Survey
This paper discusses a new approach to use the information from a special social network with high homophily to select a survey respondent group under a limited budget such that the result of the survey is biased to the minority opinions. This approach has a wide range of potential applications, e.g. collecting complaints from the customers of a new product while most of them are satisfied. We ...

متن کاملSurvey of pet stores regarding medical advice provided for pet fish and the potential impact on welfare
Background: Much of the work on fish welfare focuses on areas prior to arrival at the home aquarium. Fish owners may have questions regarding the health and well-being of their fish, and they likely return to the point of purchase to get relevant fish health information. Methods: A phone survey was administered to a random sample of North Carolina stores that sell pet fish. The purpose was to d...
متن کاملAwareness of Racial and Socioeconomic Health Disparities in the United States: The National Opinion Survey on Health and Health Disparities, 2008-2009
INTRODUCTION Recent initiatives aim to improve public awareness of health disparities. However, little research has actually documented the US public's awareness of racial/ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities. We sought to determine 1) whether the US public is aware of racial, educational, and income disparities in health, 2) whether awareness differs across these disparity domains, and ...
