Active Membrane Systems Without Charges and Using Only Symmetric Elementary Division Characterise P

چکیده
In this paper we introduce a variant of membrane systems with elementary division and without charges. We allow only elementary division where the resulting membranes are identical; we refer to this using the biological term symmetric division. We prove that this model characterises P. This result characterises the power of a class of membrane systems that fall under the so called P conjecture for membrane

First Steps Towards Linking Membrane Depth and the Polynomial Hierarchy
Active membrane systems without charges are an extremely interesting group of models to study from the computational complexity point of view. Forbidding the use of a single rule type yields dramatic differences in computing power of these models. For example, it is known that systems with strong non-elementary division characterise PSPACE [1, 14], but when dissolution is forbidden these system...
متن کاملP systems with active membranes and without polarizations
P systems with active membranes but without using electrical charges (polarizations) are shown to be complete for generating recursively enumerable string languages when working on string objects and using only rules with membrane transitions as well as rules with membrane dissolving and elementary membrane division, but also when using various other kinds of rules, even including a new type of...
متن کاملOn the Computational Efficiency of Polarizationless Recognizer P Systems with Strong Division and Dissolution
Recognizer P systems with active membranes have proven to be very powerful computing devices, being able to solve NP-complete decision problems in a polynomial time. However such solutions usually exploit many powerful features, such as electrical charges (polarizations) associated to membranes, evolution rules, communication rules, and strong or weak forms of division rules. In this paper we c...
متن کاملRemarks on the Computational Power of Some Restricted Variants of P Systems with Active Membranes
In this paper we consider three restricted variants of P systems with active membranes: (1) P systems using out communication rules only, (2) P systems using elementary membrane division and dissolution rules only, and (3) polarizationless P systems using dissolution and restricted evolution rules only. We show that every problem in P can be solved with uniform families of any of these variants...
متن کاملTuring Incompleteness of Asynchronous P Systems with Active Membranes
We prove that asynchronous P systems with active membranes without division rules can be simulated by place/transition Petri nets, and hence are computationally weaker than Turing machines. This result holds even if the synchronisation mechanisms provided by electrical charges and membrane dissolution are exploited.
