چکیده

Hydrogen (H2) is considered as a promising and ideal source of energy for the future. This is due to the factor that it is clean and it produces an amount of energy that is higher than the one produced by other fuel on a mass basis (122 kJ g_1) [1]. In addition, its low heating value (LHV) is 2.4, 2.8 and 4 times higher than methane, gasoline and coal respectively [2]. For these reason, the amount of energy produced during H2 combustion is higher than that released by any other fuel on a mass basis. Besides, significant use of H2 will contribute to the reduction of energy-linked environmental impacts, including global warming due to anthropogenic carbon emissions, mobile source emissions such as CO, NOx, SOx, non-methane hydrocarbons, and particulates [3].

Electricity generation by Rhodopseudomonas palustris DX-1.

Bacteria able to generate electricity in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are of great interest, but there are few strains capable of high power production in these systems. Here we report that the phototrophic purple nonsulfur bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris DX-1, isolated from an MFC, produced electricity at higher power densities (2720 +/- 60 mW/m2) than mixed cultures in the same device. Wh...

Molecular Characterization of Glutamine Synthetase from the Nitrogen-Fixing Phototrophic Bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris1

Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Glutamine Synthetase, Dye-Ligand Chromatography, Nitrogen Fixation, Ammonium Assimilation The phototrophic bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris assimilated ammonium via glutamine synthetase and glutamate synthase. Diazotrophic and ammonium-grown cells had high levels of both enzymes, whereas enzymes of alternative assimilatory pathways were absent or had only low act...

Production of hydrogen gas from light and the inorganic electron donor thiosulfate by Rhodopseudomonas palustris.

A challenge for photobiological production of hydrogen gas (H(2)) as a potential biofuel is to find suitable electron-donating feedstocks. Here, we examined the inorganic compound thiosulfate as a possible electron donor for nitrogenase-catalyzed H(2) production by the purple nonsulfur phototrophic bacterium (PNSB) Rhodopseudomonas palustris. Thiosulfate is an intermediate of microbial sulfur m...

Regulatory Properties of Glutamine Synthetase from the Nitrogen-Fixing Phototrophic Bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris

Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Glutamine Synthetase Regulation, Adenylylation Glutamine synthetase from Rhodopseudomonas palustris is regulated via an adenylylation/ deadenylylation mechanism. The enzyme purified from ammonia-grown cells, released AMP upon treatment with phosphodiesterase, along with drastic changes in its pH and metal dependency. Kinetic parameters for enzyme-substrate interactio...

Experimental and Computational Investigation of Biofilm Formation by Rhodopseudomonas palustris Growth under Two Metabolic Modes

We examined biofilms formed by the metabolically versatile bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris grown via different metabolic modes. R. palustris was grown in flow cell chambers with identical medium conditions either in the presence or absence of light and oxygen. In the absence of oxygen and the presence of light, R. palustris grew and formed biofilms photoheterotrophically, and in the presen...
