In-Medium Properties of Jets
نویسنده
چکیده
Modifications of jet-like azimuthal correlations have revealed novel properties of the medium created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Experimental results on jet-like 2and 3-particle correlations, specificly “punch-through” at high transverse momentum, broadening at low and modest transverse momentum, and particularly the possible experimental evidence for conical flow, are reviewed. Future prospects of jet-like correlations and their physics potential are discussed. PACS numbers: 25.75.-q, 25.75.Gz

Magnetic Fields in Astrophysical Jets: From Launch to Termination
Long-lived, stable jets are observed in a wide variety of systems, from protostars, through Galactic compact objects to active galactic nuclei (AGN). Magnetic fields play a central role in launching, accelerating, and collimating the jets through various media. The termination of jets in molecular clouds or the interstellar medium deposits enormous amounts of mechanical energy and momentum, and...
متن کاملHeat Transfer under Double Turbulent Pulsating Jets Impinging on a Flat Surface
In this study, the numerical analysis of turbulent flow and heat transfer of double pulsating impinging jets on a flat surface has been investigated. The unsteady two-dimensional numerical solution for two similar and dissimilar jets was performed using the RNG k-ε model. The results showed that the RNG k-ε model has more satisfactory predictions of the Nusselt number distribution. Comparisons ...
متن کاملUltracompact jets in AGN
We study the properties of ultracompact jets in several prominent radio sources A), using the frequency dependence of observed position of the optically thick jet core. Frequency dependent offsets of the core positions are used for calculating the luminosities, magnetic fields, and geometrical properties of the jets. Opacity effects are studied, for both synchrotron self–absorption and external...

متن کاملExperimental Study of Parallel Jets Scouring, considering the effect of jets distance on erosion rate
The scouring process at downstream of the hydraulic structures is a complex phenomenon and many parameters affecting its amount. Failure to control this phenomenon causes damages to the dam and its associated hydraulic structures. In this research, the scouring caused by the combination of jets outlet from a gated spillway was investigated experimentally and the combination of jets adjacent to ...
متن کاملConstraints on the Nature of Jets from kpc Scale X-ray Data
Motivated by the large number of jets detected by the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and by the inverse Compton X-ray emission model (IC/CMB) for relativistic jets, we revisit two basic questions: “If the medium that carries the jet’s energy consists of hot electrons, can we use the physical length of the jet to constrain the maximum electron energy?” and “Why do jets have knots?” Based on the two ...
