The work is an encyclopaedic attempt to elucidate on a scientific and pathological basis the nature and treatment of the congerie of painful complaints, usually lumped together under the name " chronic rheumatism." It is divided, in the author's words, "into three main sections, (1) Infective or toxic arthritis ; (2) Traumatic varieties of fibrositis; (3) Static disorders falsely yclept rheumatic". The subject matter is again sub-divided into fortyfive chapters (the first thirty-five of which are included in the first division) conveniently arranged on a structural, topical, and therapeutic classification.
