چکیده

This paper describes new vector indexing algorithms for Lattice Vector Quantization (LVQ). The techniques described apply to a large class of lattices such as Z n , A n , D n , D ++ n (including as special cases the Gosset Lattice E 8 , and the lattice of Barnes-wall 1 6), widely used in signal compression. Relying on a partitioning of the events sources, based on a notion of leaders, they allow to trade the vector look-up table size for arithmetic operations. A rst approach, based on a notion of 'signed' leaders, leads, at the cost of a very small number of integer arithmetic operations, to a very signiicant reduction of the vector look-up tables (also called codebooks). In a second step, the introduction of the concept of 'absolute' leaders, and of the corresponding coding and decoding algorithms, provides additional exibility in trading table size for arithmetic operations. Pursuing the goal of the best tradeoo between storage requirements and arithmetic complexity, two algorithms allowing 'on-the-y' generation of relevant portions of codebooks either of 'absolute' or of 'signed' leaders are then proposed. In addition to the interest with respect to storage requirements, these last techniques allow to avoid the problems of lattice truncating, or of vector dynamic limitations, usually encountered in LVQ. The reduction of codebook sizes leads in turn to reduced encoder and decoder complexities and allows to speed up the encoding and decoding processes. For each approach, code structures under the form of product codes with one or several components are proposed. The association of these vector indexing techniques with product codes, in the framework of Lattice Vector Quantization, leads to increased compression performances.

Fast Vector Quantization by Using Gated Look-Up Table

Vector quantization (VQ) is an elementary technique for image compression. However, the complexity of searching the nearest codeword in a codebook is time-consuming. In this work, we present an adaptive scheme “Gated Look-Up Table” (GLUT) which is able to prune codewords rapidly and uses a positional information to represent the geometric relation within codewords. The lookup procedure could ju...

A fast speaker indexing using vector quantization and second order statistics with adaptive threshold computation

This paper describes an effective unsupervised speaker indexing approach. We suggest a two stage algorithm to speed-up the state-of-the-art algorithm based on the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). In the first stage of the merging process a computationally cheap method based on the vector quantization (VQ) is used. Then in the second stage a more computational expensive technique based on t...

On nonlinear utilization of intervector dependency in vector quantization

This paper presents an approach to vector quantization of sources exhibiting intervector dependency. We present the optimal decoder based on a collection of received indices. We also present the optimal encoder for such decoding. The optimal decoder can be implemented as a table look-up decoder, however the size of the decoder codebook grows very fast with the size of the collection of utilized...

Joint Equalization and Soft Decoding for Vector Quantization over Channels with Intersymbol Interference

An approach to joint equalization and decoding for vector quantization over a Gaussian channel with intersymbol interference is presented. The decoder is based on a Hadamard transform representation of the vector quantizer. This gives the decoder a structure that allows the decoding to be based on estimates of the transmitted bits in an efficient manner. The decoder is soft in the sense that so...
