Angle of Arrival and Skymap Measurements of Ionospheric Targets: LabVIEW Implementation

An Ionosonde is a special type of Doppler radar used for the probing bottom side of Ionosphere. Ionosonde system has potential applications in both radio communication and space physics. Modern Ionosonde with improved signal processing techniques made it possible to study the dynamic nature of the Ionosphere in addition to the electron density profile given by the traditional Ionosonde systems. SAMEER, Mumbai had taken up development of digital Ionosonde system, which exploits several advanced signal-processing techniques and data processing software, and graphical presentations are on par with the commercially available systems. In the Developed Ionosonde system, Ionospheric drifts have been computed using Interferometric technique. This paper presents the implementation of angle of arrival computations of Ionospheric targets using Doppler phase Interferometric technique and generating Ionospheric SKYMAPS with variety of user controlled options using LabVIEW Software.
