Collimation of energy in medium-modified QCD jets
نویسندگان
چکیده
The collimation of energy inside medium-modified jets is investigated in the leading logarithmic approximation of QCD. The Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations are slightly modified by introducing splitting functions enhanced in the infrared sector. As compared to elementary collisions in the vacuum, the angular distribution of the jet energy is found to broaden in QCD media. e-mail: [email protected] e-mail: [email protected] ha l-0 07 16 96 6, v er si on 2 14 D ec 2 01 2

Review of QCD at LEP
We review the first round of QCD studies at the c+ ecollider LEP, which started operating towards the end of last year. These studies at the peak of the 2’ resonance have proven to be extremely rewarding, not only because of the large statistics available due to the high resonance cross section, but also because of the higher centre of mass energy, which allows a much cleaner study of events wi...
متن کاملThe Structure and Dynamics of Grb Jets
There are several lines of evidence which suggest that the relativistic outflows in gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are collimated into narrow jets. The jet structure has important implications for the true energy release and the event rate of GRBs, and can constrain the mechanism responsible for the acceleration and collimation of the jet. Nevertheless, the jet structure and its dynamics as it sweeps ...
متن کاملThe acceleration and collimation of jets.
I will discuss several issues related to the acceleration, collimation, and propagation of jets from active galactic nuclei. Hydromagnetic stresses provide the best bet for both accelerating relativistic flows and providing a certain amount of initial collimation. However, there are limits to how much "self-collimation" can be achieved without the help of an external pressurized medium. Moreove...
متن کاملJet quenching via jet collimation
The strong modifications of dijet properties in heavy ion collisions measured by ATLAS and CMS provide important constraints on the dynamical mechanisms underlying jet quenching. In this work, we show that the transport of soft gluons away from the jet cone — jet collimation — can account for the observed dijet asymmetry with values of q̂ L that lie in the expected order of magnitude. Further, w...
متن کاملEffect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars
Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...
