Node Usage based Load Balancing in AOMDV for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

A Mobile Ad-hoc is a mobile, multi-hop wireless network having no pre-existing infrastructure. Routing in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks is a challenging task due to dynamic topology, limited power and restricted bandwidth. The widely used shortest path based routing algorithms lead to various network utilization problems. Therefore, we need load balancing for distributing the traffic evenly in the network. In this paper, a new load balancing approach NUAOMDV based on node usage is proposed which is an extension of AOMDV. In this technique, a new load metric is introduced and primary path for data transmission is selected on the basis of existing traffic load. The simulation result shows the performance improvement in terms of end-to-end delay, throughput and packet delivery ratio.
