Mapping interactions within and between cohesive subgroups *

چکیده
The structure of interactions and the pattern of influence in an organization can be characterized in terms of a map of interactions within and between cohesive subgroups. I extend the work of Festinger, Schachter and Back (Social Pressures in InformalGroups, 1950, Stanford University Press) who constructed a map based on the pattern of communication within and between apartment courts. In order to generalize Fest inger et al.'s approach, I substitute a posteriori subgroups for Fest inger et al.'s apar tment courts, and I replace the distances of a physical geography with those of a metric mult idimensional scaling. I apply the technique to data indicating professional discussions among teachers in a high school. Af ter confirming that discussions are concentrated within a posteriori subgroups at a level that is unlikely to have occurred by chance alone, I construct a map of discussions within and between the cohesive subgroups. The map allows me to characterize the processes of influence at the teacher and school levels through which the school responds to external conditions, and I argue that a map based on blocks of structurally similar actors does not sustain a comparable characterization.

Identifying cohesive subgroups *
Cohesive subgroups have always represented an important construct for sociologists who study individuals and organizations. In this article, I apply recent advances in the statistical modell ing of social network data to the task of identifying cohesive subgroups from social network data. Further, through simulated data, I describe a process for obtaining the probability that a given sample of ...
متن کاملبررسی ساختار نواری بلور حالت جامد 60 fcc-C
We studied the architecture of the C60 cluster to drive its atomic positions which can be seen at room temperature. We then used the obtained carbon positions as a basis set for the fcc structure to construct the fcc-C60 compound. Self consistent calculations were performed based on the density functional theory (DFT) utilizing the accurate WIEN2K code to solve the single-particle Kohen-Sham eq...
متن کاملCombining Biological Computation and Fuzzy-Based Methods for Organisationally Cohesive Subgroups
Cohesive subgroups in complicated employee relationships are commonly discovered and organised when personnel managers need to efficiently execute a job rotation. This provides employees with a better work life quality and encourages them to work more efficiently. Rearranging a small number of employees using electronic computation can be easily accomplished, but rearranging a larger number of ...
متن کاملBetween-group competition elicits within-group cooperation in children
Aggressive interactions between groups are frequent in human societies and can bear significant fitness costs and benefits (e.g. death or access to resources). During between-group competitive interactions, more cohesive groups (i.e. groups formed by individuals who cooperate in group defence) should out-perform less cohesive groups, other factors being equal (e.g. group size). The cost/benefit...
متن کاملA Study on Intuitionistic Fuzzy and Normal Fuzzy M-Subgroup, M-Homomorphism and Isomorphism
In this paper, we introduce some properties of an intuitionistic normal fuzzy m-subgroup of m- group with m-homomorphism and isomorphism. We study he image, the pre-image and the inverse mapping of the intuitionistic normal fuzzy m-subgroups.
