چکیده

support the view that the hydrocarbons are being actively metabolized. This is further borne out by the results obtained on the partially oxidized derivatives, such as long-chain monohydric alcohols and long-chain monocarboxylic acids. Methylene-blue reduction, moreover, points to the presence of a dehydrogenase enzyme present in the cells capable of oxidizing the long-chain hydrocarbons. It seems that this organism offers very interesting possibilities for further studies on metabolism.

A Study on the Antibacterial Activity of Lactic Acid Bacteria Isolated from Traditional Iranian Milk Samples

198 Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from Iranian milk samples. Almost all isolatedLAB showed inhibitory activity towards E. coli and S. aureus as Gram negative and Grampositive indicators, respectively. No role was observed for hydrogen peroxide in the activity ofall isolated strains while organic acids proved a prominent role in all detected inhibitoryactivities. Within isolated LAB, ...

Mechanism of ascorbic acid oxidation by cytochrome b(561).

The 1 equiv reaction between ascorbic acid and cytochrome b(561) is a good model for redox reactions between metalloproteins (electron carriers) and specific organic substrates (hydrogen-atom carriers). Diethyl pyrocarbonate inhibits the reaction of cytochrome b(561) with ascorbate by modifying a histidine residue in the ascorbate-binding site. Ferri/ferrocyanide can mediate reduction of DEPC-t...

The comparison of digestibility of treated sugarcane tops silage by bacteria or whole microorganisms of Holstein cow and buffalo rumen

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of adding sulfuric acid to sugarcane topssilage on rumen bacteria and whole rumen microorganisms (WRM) and compare the digestibility of sugarcane tops treated with different amount of urea, molasses and sulfuric acid between Holstein cow and Khouzestan buffalo. Regardless of the type of the treatment, potential of gas production (B) by cow WRM (...
