Principle-Based DRTU for HPSG: a case study
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent work has addressed the issue of using Discourse Representation Theory (Kamp and Reyle, 1993) as a semantic framework for Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar (Pollard and Sag, 1994). The current proposal presents a straightforward implementation based in DRT Unplugged (Bos, 1996), within the HPSG formalism. The focus is on scoping phenomena in realistic feature-based grammars, and towards the elimination of logically equivalent readings.

Evaluating and Extending the Coverage of HPSG Grammars: A Case Study for German
In this work, we examine and attempt to extend the coverage of a German HPSG grammar. We use the grammar to parse a corpus of newspaper text and evaluate the proportion of sentences which have a correct attested parse, and analyse the cause of errors in terms of lexical or constructional gaps which prevent parsing. Then, using a maximum entropy model, we evaluate prediction of lexical types in ...
متن کاملCompilation of HPSG to TAG
We present an implemented compilation algorithm that translates HPSG into lexicalized feature-based TAG, relating concepts of the two theories. While HPSG has a more elaborated principle-based theory of possible phrase structures, TAG provides the means to represent lexicalized structures more explicitly. Our objectives are met by giving clear definitions that determine the projection of struct...
متن کاملClp Based Hpsg Parsing
We describe a system for principle based parsing of HPSG employing constraint logic programming techniques. Typed features structures are implemented as constraints on PROLOG variables and are instantiated in a lazy fashion. Grammar principles as well as relational constraints are stated in a declarative way by means of conditional constraints on feature structures. The procedural interpretatio...
متن کاملVerb Second by Underspecif ication
The paper presents an HPSG analysis of Verb Second (V2) in German by underspeciication, making use of a categorial type hierarchy. We begin by discussing some shortcomings of the HPSG analysis of V2 by lexical rule in Kiss/Wesche(1991), which can be remedied by integration of the concept of functional categories, originally introduced in HPSG by Netter(1994). Based on these insights, and largel...
متن کاملA Constraint-based Grammar of Case : To Correctly Predict Case Phrases Occurring without Their Head Verb
The current paper argues that the phenomenon in Japanese that case phrases occur without their head verb before the finite complementizer would falsify the HPSG valence/content analysis, for example, in Sag 1997, Pollard and Sag 1994, if no phantom relation corresponding to a verb is used in the syntax or semantics. The HPSG valence/content analysis is that the content of a case phrase structur...
