Dual Queue with Optimal Queue Selection to Enhance Tcp Fairness over Wireless Networks

چکیده

The performance of TCP in the presence of handoff is effectively enhanced by the two schemes discussed in chapter 5. The EPRN scheme executes immediate recovery of lost packets during handoff and maintains the throughput of protocol by keeping the congestion control parameters unaltered. It also classifies the packet loss using a simple heuristic and by measuring the end-to-end delay encountered by the packet during transmission from the source to destination. The ETCP-VHO effectively handles both UVHO and DVHO by addressing the problem of packet reordering and premature timeouts. The schemes discussed in the previous chapters aimed to improve the throughput of TCP over wireless networks. In an asymmetric wireless network, fairness is one of the challenging issues in TCP flows.

TCP Unfairness in Ad Hoc Wireless Networks and a Neighborhood RED Solution

Significant TCP unfairness in ad hoc wireless networks has been reported during the past several years. This unfairness results from the nature of the shared wireless medium and location dependency. If we view a node and its interfering nodes to form a “neighborhood”, the aggregate of local queues at these nodes represents the distributed queue for this neighborhood. However, this queue is not ...

Evaluation of a Queue Management Method for TCP Communications over Multi-hop Wireless Links

In this paper we propose a queue management method for improving TCP performance over multihop wireless links. With our proposed control method, packet loss in the wireless link is completely eliminated and all packets are delivered in the correct order. No change is required to TCP itself or to the servers. Our proposed method is implemented between the media access control layer (MAC) and log...

TCP fairness issues in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs

In this paper, we study several TCP fairness issues in wireless local networks, both experimentally and via simulation. We illustrate the unfairness problems caused by the 802.11 MAC protocol, as well as by cross-layer interactions. Two possible solutions, namely SPM-AF queue management and LAS queue management, are proposed in the paper. These two queue management approaches are designed to al...

A study of fairness among heterogeneous TCP variants over 10 Gbps high-speed optical networks

Several high-speed TCP variants are adopted by end users and therefore, heterogeneous congestion control has become the characteristic of newly emerging high-speed optical networks. In contrast to homogeneous TCP flows, fairness among heterogeneous TCP flows now depends on router parameters such as queue management scheme and buffer size. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of...

Optimal Tuning of the TCP Retransmission TimeOut for small-BDP lossy wireless networks

We study TCP performance over small-BDP lossy wireless networks. Our model is based on a feedback queue. It is tailored for the case when TCP operates with small congestion windows. The present approach allows us to analyze both standard and transmission loss aware TCP versions. Based on the system load and the average queue size of the packets waiting for transmission, we show how an optimal v...
