Comprehensive evidences of the SU(3) limit in the spdf interacting boson model, a dynamical symmetry describing octupole vibration in rotatonal nucleus , are found in the spectrum, E2 and E1 transition rates, and relative intensities in 158 Gd. This gives a good example of rotational nucleus with octupole vibration in rare-earth region.

The summed strength for transitions from the ground state of 12 C via the operators st, ℓt, rY ′ t, r[Y ′ s] λ t and r[Y ′ ℓ] λ t are calculated using the ∆N = 0 rotational model. If we choose the z component of the isospin operator t z , the above operators are relevant to electromagnetic transitions; if we choose t + they are relevant to weak transitions such as neutrino capture.
