Joint optimization of VQ codebooks and QAM signal constellations for AWGN channels

چکیده
A joint design scheme has been proposed to optimize the source encoder and the modulation signal constellation based on the minimization of the end-to-end distortion including both the quantization error and channel distortion. The proposed scheme first optimizes the vector quantization (VQ) codebook for a fixed modulation signal set, and then the modulation signals for the fixed VQ codebook. These two steps are iteratively repeated until they reach a local optimum solution. It has been shown that the performance of the proposed system can be enhanced by employing a new efficient mapping scheme between codevectors and modulation signals. Simulation results show that a jointly optimized system based on the proposed algorithms outperforms the conventional system based on a conventional quadrature amplitude modulation signal set and the VQ codebook designed for a noiseless channel.

Optimized signal constellations for trellis-coded modulation on AWGN channels
NGERBOECK’S trellis-coded modulation (TCM) schemes [1]-[3] use the symmetries of rate n/ (n + 1) binary convolutional codes to map the channel symbols onto the trellis. The channel symbols are selected from the pulse amplitude modulation (PAM), phase shift keying (PSK), or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signal constellations that are also used for uncoded modulation. In [4] and [SI, howe...

| In this paper, we design parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCCs) for trellis coded modulation (TCM) over the following discrete two-dimensional (2D) channels: (a) a slow-fading Rayleigh channel with discrete carrier tracking by a phase locked loop (PLL), where the PLL signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is proportional to the fading amplitude squared; (b) an additive white Gaussian noise (A...
متن کاملAnalytical Models for Distribution of the Envelope and Phase of Linearly Modulated Signals in AWGN Channel
In this paper, analytical expressions for the distribution of the envelope and phase of linearly modulated signals such as BPSK, M-PSK, and M-QAM in AWGN are presented. We perform numerical simulations for different orders of signal constellations. The results show that the proposed theoretical models are in excellent agreement with the estimated distributions from various numerical experiments...

This paper presents the evaluation of the average spectral efficiencies provided by the adaptive employment of a set of LDPC-coded QAM modulations in an OFDMA downlink scheme over mobile radio channels, assuming a joint channelaccess method modeling. It discusses the selection of the set of coded modulations, the setting of the SINR domains where they are optimal and derives the average spectra...

In this paper, concatenated coding schemes with Reed-Solomon (RS) coding in the outer stage and trellis coded modulation (TCM) in the inner stage are analyzed. The TCM decoder incorporates a Viterbi decoder compliant with ITU-T Recommendation J.83, Annex B (North American digital video transmission specifications for Multimedia Cable Network System (MCNS)). The module is suitable as the inner s...
