چکیده

The Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture has been proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force as a scalable solution for providing end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees over the Internet. While the scalability of the data plane emerges from the definition of only a small number of different service classes, the issue of a scalable control plane is still an open research problem. The initial proposal was to use a centralized agent, called Bandwidth Broker, to manage the resources within each DiffServ domain and make local admission control decisions. In this article, we propose an alternative decentralized approach, which increases significantly the scalability of both the data and control planes. We discuss in detail all the different aspects of the architecture, and indicate how to provide end-to-end QoS support for both unicast and multicast flows. Furthermore, we introduce a simple traffic engineering mechanism, which enables the more efficient utilization of the network resources. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

An End-to-end Qos Provisioning Architecture in Mobile Network

Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning is one of critical issues in the wireless and mobile network. However, the existing works for QoS guarantee focused on only the wireless network characteristics. In this paper, we proposed an end-to-end QoS provisioning architecture in the diverse mobility situations. This architecture consists the Differentiated Service (DiffServ) model and Integrated Serv...

Scalable Video Streaming Traffic Delivery in IP/UMTS Networking Environments

The paper discusses the end-to-end QoS provisioning for scalable video streaming traffic delivery over heterogeneous IP/UMTS networks. A prototype architecture is proposed, and is further validated, that explores the joint use of packet prioritization and scalable video coding (SVC) together with the appropriate mapping of UMTS traffic classes to the DiffServ traffic classes. A complete set of ...

QoS support in the UMTS/GPRS backbone network using DiffServ

The Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) has a number of service classes that require end-to-end QoS support. This requirement imposes on the design of the UMTS backbone bearer service as a part of the UMTS hierarchical QoS architecture. This paper presents a methodology of provisioning QoS in the UMTS backbone network based on the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) model, a relati...

Applying the BGRP Concept for Scalable Inter-Domain Resource Provisioning in IP Networks

Providing end-to-end QoS guarantees to mission critical applications comprises a main challenge for the today’s Internet infrastructure. The Differentiated Services architecture (DiffServ) enhanced by the Bandwidth Broker (BB) approach is a first step towards resource management. In this context, the architecture proposed in this paper realises a distributed BB architecture, in order to provide...

A Novel End-to-end Qos Framework over Heterogeneous Networks - an Architectural Approach

End-to-end QoS (Quality of Service) provisioning over heterogeneous networks is a major challenge. The poor communication between Service Providers, the increasing complexity of the supported services, the need for fulfillment of end-toend requirements represent the main problems to be solved by the new QoS frameworks. This paper presents a novel system architecture for an end-to-end QoS framew...
