چکیده

Background: Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a greenhouse gas that is a very small portion of the nitrogen cycle, but is environmentally damaging at low levels. In the lower atmosphere, N2O absorbs infrared radiation in spectra not absorbed by other common greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. Because of N2O’s unique spectral absorption range, each molecule absorbs 200 times as much outgoing radiation as carbon dioxide (Fields, 2004). Besides the large strength in absorption, N2O has a low reactivity in the troposphere which makes it the longest lived greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.

Testing DAYCENT model simulations of corn yields and nitrous oxide emissions in irrigated tillage systems in Colorado.

Agricultural soils are responsible for the majority of nitrous oxide (N(2)O) emissions in the USA. Irrigated cropping, particularly in the western USA, is an important source of N(2)O emissions. However, the impacts of tillage intensity and N fertilizer amount and type have not been extensively studied for irrigated systems. The DAYCENT biogeochemical model was tested using N(2)O, crop yield, s...

Nitrogen oxide and methane emissions under varying tillage and fertilizer management.

Comprehensive assessment of the total greenhouse gas (GHG) budget of reduced tillage agricultural systems must consider emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4), each of which have higher global warming potentials than carbon dioxide (CO2). Tillage intensity may also impact nitric oxide (NO) emissions, which can have various environmental and agronomic impacts. In 2003 and 2004, we us...

Nitrous Oxide Emissions from Irrigated Cropping Systems

We evaluated the eff ects of irrigated crop management practices on nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from soil. Emissions were monitored from several irrigated cropping systems receiving N fertilizer rates ranging from 0 to 246 kg N ha−1 during the 2005 and 2006 growing seasons. Cropping systems included conventional-till (CT) continuous corn (Zea mays L.), no-till (NT) continuous corn, NT corn–dr...

Impact of Kura Clover Living Mulch on Nitrous Oxide Emissions in a Corn-Soybean System.

Nitrous oxide (NO), produced primarily in agricultural soils, is a potent greenhouse gas and is the dominant ozone-depleting substance. Efforts to reduce NO emissions are underway, but mitigation results have been inconsistent. The leguminous perennial kura clover ( M. Bieb.) (KC) can grow side-by-side with cash crops in rotational corn ( L.)-soybean ( L.) systems. With biological nitrogen fixa...
