چکیده

The challenge of our time is to find a way to preserve the key features of local cultures, such as local worldviews, religious beliefs and values, while developing skills and competencies needed to succeed in the global century. The increasing role of knowledge for determining the standard of living and future prospects for growth is creating a “skill revolution” where certain skills needed in the working life, such as critical thinking, consultation, negotiation and collaboration skills are becoming crucial. Experiences from the adaptation and implementation of educational programs in more than 50 countries within the Intel® Education Initiative provide some insights about global efforts for improving teaching and learning worldwide toward developing 21 century skills through the effective use of technology. International initiatives in education which promote a shift in thinking and attitudes toward education and development of skills for a more active participation in learning and work can be an antidote for growing inequalities, but also for loss of cultural identity and for being left behind in competing on the stage of the global knowledge society.
