‘multi-path’ Motion of Deployable Structures
نویسندگان
چکیده
A recently developed, rigid-panel deployable antenna has shown, unexpectedly, a kind of multi-path behaviour. A physical model of the antenna deploys automatically without problems but, during retraction, it attempts to follow an alternative path and gradually locks up. Manual intervention is necessary to take the model back to its nominal retraction path, and this successfully completes the retraction process. A simple mechanical model of the antenna is analysed, and it is found that a similar type of ‘multi-path’ behaviour occurs for certain parameter values. Thus, by exploring how changes in the system parameters affect the multi-path behaviour, a way of improving the antenna design is obtained. M. Schulz and S. Pellegrino. 2

Geometric Considerations for the Design of Rigid Origami Structures
Transformable polyhedral surfaces with rigid facets, i.e., rigid origami, are useful for designing kinetic and deployable structures. In order to apply rigid origami to various architectural and other engineering design purposes, it is essential to consider the geometry of origami in kinetic motion and provide sufficiently generalized methods to produce controlled variations of shapes that suit...
متن کاملCentralized Path Planning for Multi-aircraft in the Presence of Static and Moving Obstacles
This article proposes a new approach for centralized path planning of multiple aircraft in presence of the obstacle-laden environment under low flying rules. The problem considers as a unified nonlinear constraint optimization problem. The minimum time and control investigate as the cost functions and the maximum velocity and power consider as the constraints. The pseudospectral method applies ...
متن کاملDynamic Simulation of A Large Deployable Space Structure with Pinned Joints
Plays of joints strongly influence the dynamics of the large deployable space structures. In this paper, dynamic simulation of space structures with pinned joints is discussed. The study can be simply divided into two parts: the flexible effect of structure is simulated by MSC/NASTRAN, and the global motion of rigid body by DADS. The details of how to select the deformation modes in MSC/NASTRAN...
متن کاملKinematic Bifurcations in the Simulation of Deployable Structures
This paper deals with the kinematic simulation of deployable structures that go through bifurcation points as they move. A series of algorithms are developed for structures that can be modelled using pin-jointed bars and that admit a single-parameter motion. These algorithms are able to detect and locate any bifurcation points that exist along the path of the structure and, at each bifurcation ...
متن کاملBiomimetic Characteristics of an Active Deployable Structure
2009 2 3 SUMMARY Biomimetic structures are structures that demonstrate increased functionality through mimicking qualities of biological organisms. Self-repair and adaptation mechanisms are examples of biological qualities that can be adapted in structural engineering. Over the last decades, great strides have been made in advancing theory and practice of active structural control. However, lit...
