چکیده

Both isometric exercise and cold stress have been suggested as alternatives to dynamic exercise for the detection of obstructive coronary artery disease. A non-imaging nuclear probe was used to measure left ventricular ejection fraction and relative left ventricular volumes continuously during both of these stress tests in 24 normal subjects. There was a significant fall in left ventricular ejection fraction within 15 seconds of subjects starting a two minute isometric hand grip test at 50% maximal voluntary contraction, with a mean (SE) maximal fall of 10% (1 8) after 90 seconds. During two minutes immersion of the hand and wrist in iced water left ventricular ejection fraction fell significantly within 30 seconds with a mean maximal fall of 7% (1 -7) after one minute. Nine subjects underwent repeat tests under identical conditions approximately two weeks later. The standard error of the change in ejection fraction on two occasions was 5 4% at

Plasma noradrenaline concentrations during isometric exercise.

Blood was collected simultaneously from the left ventricle and pulmonary artery in 12 patients undergoing routine cardiac catheterisation and was analysed for noradrenaline concentrations at rest, during, and after isometric stress (hand grip). Moderate isometric exercise resulted in a significant rise in plasma noradrenaline with a return to basal values 10 minutes after discontinuing the grip...

Aging attenuates the coronary blood flow response to cold air breathing and isometric handgrip in healthy humans.

The purpose of this echocardiography study was to measure peak coronary blood flow velocity (CBV(peak)) and left ventricular function (via tissue Doppler imaging) during separate and combined bouts of cold air inhalation (-14 ± 3°C) and isometric handgrip (30% maximum voluntary contraction). Thirteen young adults and thirteen older adults volunteered to participate in this study and underwent e...

Myocardial lactate metabolism during isometric hand grip test. Comparison with pacing tachycardia.

Twenty-five patients with chest pain were studied by left ventriculography and coronary arteriography. Myocardial metabolic studies were done during control state, pacing tachycardia, isometric hand grip at 30 per cent of maximum force, and combined hand grip plus pacing tachycardia. Nine patients had myocardial lactate abnormality (group 1) as evidenced by myocardial lactate production or decr...

Effect of cold air inhalation and isometric exercise on coronary blood flow and myocardial function in humans.

The effects of cold air inhalation and isometric exercise on coronary blood flow are currently unknown, despite the fact that both cold air and acute exertion trigger angina in clinical populations. In this study, we used transthoracic Doppler echocardiography to measure coronary blood flow velocity (CBV; left anterior descending coronary artery) and myocardial function during cold air inhalati...
