چکیده

User interface design metrics assist developers to evaluate interface designs in early phase before delivering the software to end users. This paper presents a metric-based tool called GUIEvaluator for evaluating the complexity of the user interface based on its structure. We defined a metrics model that includes five modified structural measures of interface complexity: Alignment, grouping, size, density, and balance. The results of our tool are discussed in comparison with the subjective evaluations of interface layouts. This paper demonstrates the potential benefits of incorporating automated complexity metrics into the user interface design process. Our findings show that the means of the interface complexity values for both the subjective evaluation and the GUIEvaluator are equal at a significance level 0.01. AIDE: A tool to assist in the design and evaluation of user interfaces

The need for working prototypes, expert user interface designers, or test users can prevent an interface from being evaluated thoroughly before the product is released. Automating any part of the design and evaluation process can help eliminate some usability problems, which translates into reduced development costs. This also allows designers to focus their attention on the more demanding aspe...

Finite-State Testing of Graphical User Interfaces

The most Human-Computer-Interfaces will be materialized by Graphical User Interfaces (GUI). With the growing complexity of the computer-based system, also their GUIs become more complex, accordingly making the test process more and more costly. The paper introduces a holistic view of fault modeling that can be carried out as a complementary step to system modeling, enabling a precise scalabilit...

The Introduction of Several User Interface Structural Metrics to Make Test Automation More Effective

User interfaces have special characteristics that differentiate them from the rest of the software code. Typical software metrics that indicate its complexity and quality may not be able to distinguish a complex Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a high quality one from another that is not. This paper is about suggesting and introducing some GUI structural metrics that can be gathered dynamicall...
