Roughness Model for Adhesion Testing of Pharmaceutical Coating Materials
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective Roughness is the main parameter in interlocking bonding mechanism. Yet there is no model designed to evaluate the effect of surface roughness on adhesion of coating materials in pharmaceutical sciences. Materials and Methods In this study polymethyl metacrylate spherical beads with different sizes were poured into 10 mm mold, then it was pressed by hand screw and finally heated to 141 C. The texture of the resulted surfaces of the discs was quantified and qualified for roughness using Surface Texture Measurement Instrum Model Sarcum110 and SEM, respectively. Solutions of Hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC E15) and polyvinylpyrrolidon (PVP K90) were used as binding agents. After conditioning, shear testing technique was carried out for bond strength evaluation using calibrated shear cell bar. Results The resulted bond strengths were in the rank order of decreasing particle size and HPMC E15 resulted in higher bond strength. Conclusion It could be concluded that this model of roughness, which is easy to prepare, is suitable for studying adhesion of pharmaceutical binders.

متن کاملEffect of Surface Roughness Morphology on Bond Strength of Thermal Sprayed WC-10Co-4Cr Ceramic/Metal Coating
In this study, the effect of surface roughness and roughness morphology on the bond strength of WC-Co-Cr coatings has investigated. The three different surfaces morphology are use for this purpose. The first and tow samples sandblasted with alumina and silicon carbide respectively. Other sample no sandblasted before spraying process. The same WC-10Co-4Cr coating deposited on the substrates with...
متن کاملMD-Simulation of Duty Cycle and TaN Interlayer Effects on the Surface Properties of Ta Coatings Deposited by Pulsed-DC Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition
In this work, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were employed to investigate the effects of duty cycle changes and utilization of tantalum nitride interlayer on the surface roughness and adhesion of Ta coating deposited by pulsed-DC plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition. To examine the simulation results, some selected deposition conditions were experimentally implemented and characterize...
متن کاملPretreatment Effect on the Properties of Electroless Nano - Crystalline Nickel Phosphorous Coating
the influence of mechanical polishing pre-treatments on steel substrates is investigated in terms of microstructure, deposition rate, adhesion, mechanical and corrosion properties of electroless Ni-P nanocoating with 9-10% wt. of P content. XRD analysis of Ni-P coatings demonstrated the nanocrystalline structure of coating with the grain size of 39 nm. Results showed that pretreatment of substr...
متن کاملHigh-temperature degradation of plasma sprayed thermal barrier coating systems
Thermal barrier coating systems (TBCs) are used in gas turbines to prevent high-temperature degradation of metallic materials in the combustor and turbine. One of the main concerns regarding TBCs is poor reliability, and accurate life prediction models are necessary in order to fully utilise the beneficial effects of TBCs. This research project aims at developing deeper understanding of the deg...
