Partial Information in Multimodal Dialogue
نویسندگان
چکیده
Much research has been directed towards developing mul-timodal interfaces in the past twenty years. Many current multimodal systems, however, can only handle multimodal inputs at the sentence level. The move towards multimodal dialogue signiicantly increases the complexity of the system as the representations of the input now range over time and input modality. We developed a framework to address this problem consisting of three parts. First, we propose to use multidimen-sional feature structures, a straightforward extension of typed feature structures, as a uniform representational formalism in which the semantic content stemming from all input modalities can be expressed. Second, we extend the feature structure formalism by an object-oriented framework that allows the back-end application to keep track of the state of the representation under discussion. And third, we propose an informa-tional characterization of dialogue states through a constraint logic program whose constraint system consists of the multidimensional feature structures. The multimodal dialogue manager uses the characterization of dialogue states to decide on an appropriate strategy.

Making Sense of Partial ∗
We address the challenging task of processing partial multimodal utterances in a mixed-initiative dialogue system for multiple applications such as information seeking, device control etc. Based on four different types of expectations computed by our action planner (aka dialog manager), we distinguish between expected utterances, various degrees of unexpected but plausible utterances, and unint...
متن کاملDialogue management for multimodal user registration
User registration refers to associating certain personal information with a user. It is widely used in hospitals, hotels and conferences. In this paper, we propose an approach to interactive user registration by combining face recognition, speech recognition and speech synthesis technologies together through an efficient dialogue manager. In order to minimize a user’s effort, we employ a new di...
متن کاملModeling and Guiding Cooperative Multimodal Dialogues
In this paper we claim that a consistent conversational approach to human-computer interaction can be applied feasibly to multimodal interaction. A comprehensive conversational model is presented that covers interrelated levels of the dialogue structure, i.e. illocutionary, rhetorical, and topical aspects. It thus provides the basis for a consistent interpretation of the linguistic as well as g...
متن کاملAdaptive Multimodal Dialogue Management Based on the Information State Update Approach
This paper provides an overview of the aims of the TALK project focusing on the issue of integrating Reinforcement Learning (RL) with the Information State Update (ISU) approach to dialogue management, in order to develop adaptive multimodal dialogue systems. The project will build showcases for in-car and in-home information and control, but its main aim is to advance our understanding of gene...
متن کاملMultimodal Dialogue Management - State of the art
This report is about the state of the art in dialogue management. We first introduce an overview of a multimodal dialogue system and its components. Second, four main approaches to dialogue management are described (finite-state and frame-based, information-state based and probabilistic, plan-based, and collaborative agent-based approaches). Finally, the dialogue management in the recent dialog...
