چکیده

Highly peaked density and pressure profiles in a new operating regime have been observed on the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR). The qprofile has a region of reversed magnetic shear extending from the magnetic axis to r / u 0.3-0.4. The central electron density rises from 0.45 x lo2’ m-3 to nearly 1.2 x lo2’ m-’ during neutral beam injection. The electron particle diffusivity drops precipitously in the plasma core with the onset of the improved confinement mode and can be reduced by a factor of N 50 to near the neoclassical particle diffusivity level. 52.55.-s, 52.55.Fa, 52.30.Bt DISTRIBUTION OF THIS DOCUMENT IS UNLlMlTEb

Core Transport Reduction in Tokamak Plasmas with Modified Magnetic Shear

Spontaneous improvements of plasma confinement during auxiliary heating have been observed in many tokamaks when the q profile has been modified from its normal resistive equilibrium so that q > 1 and the magnetic shear is reduced or reversed in a region near the magnetic axis. The effects on the overall plasma confinement result from the formation in the plasma interior of transport barriers, ...

Development of Reversed Shear Plasmas with Large Bootstrap Current Fraction towards Reactor Relevant Regime in JT-60U

Abstract. This paper reports the development of reversed magnetic shear (RS) plasmas with a large bootstrap current fraction (fBS) towards reactor relevant regime, especially lower q95 regime. By utilizing large volume configuration close to the conductive wall for wall stabilization, the beta limit of RS plasmas is significantly improved. As a result, high confinement RS plasmas with large fBS...

The Radial Electric Field in a Tokamak with Reversed Magnetic Shear

Neoclassical theory with the impurity rotational velocity is used to evaluate the radial electric field, Er, in tokamaks. The result of using the complete matrix method for the deuterium-carbon plasma is compared with a reduced analytic formula for determining Er [Ernst et al., (1998)]. The analytic formula is shown to overestimate the Er magnitude and its gradient. Two transport measures of th...

Off-Axis Sawteeth and Double-Tearing Reconnectionin Reversed Magnetic Shear Plasmas in TFTR.

O -axis sawteeth are often observed in reversed magnetic shear plasmas when the minimum safety factor q is near or below 2. Fluctuations with m=n = 2=1 (m and n are the poloidal and toroidal mode numbers) appear before and after the crashes. Detailed comparison has been made between the measured Te pro le evolution during the crash and a nonlinear numerical magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulation...

Observation of velocity-independent electron transport in the reversed field pinch.

Confinement of runaway electrons has been observed for the first time in a reversed field pinch during improved-confinement plasmas in the Madison Symmetric Torus. Energy-resolved hard-x-ray flux measurements have been used to determine the velocity dependence of the electron diffusion coefficient, utilizing computational solutions of the Fokker-Planck transport equation. With improved-confinem...
