Variational Approach to Orthogonally-polarized Optical Soliton Interaction with Cubic and Quintic Nonlinearities

چکیده
A reduced variational technique is developed to describe the interaction of opposite-handed, circularly-polarized, d-dimensional solitons propagating in an isotropic material with both cubic and quintic nonlinearities. Dynamical equations for the simultaneous collapse and interaction of the two solitons are developed and are shown to be analogous to a particle in a (d] 2)-dimensional potential well. This potential simultaneously describes the dynamics of the interaction as well as the selfand cross-focusing of the two solitons. Stability and escape velocity formulas are derived and compared to analytic and numerical results. The possibility of a ““slingshotÏÏ interaction is revealed, even for d\ 1 dimensional solitons, and its dynamics are illustrated by direct integration of the variational state

Nonlocal dark solitons under competing cubic-quintic nonlinearities.
We investigate properties of dark solitons under competing nonlocal cubic-local quintic nonlinearities. Analytical results, based on a variational approach and confirmed by direct numerical simulations, reveal the existence of a unique dark soliton solutions with their width being independent of the degree of nonlocality, due to the competing cubic-quintic nonlinearities.
متن کاملAnalytic study of orthogonally polarized solitons interacting in highly birefringent optical fibers
We examine analytically, numerically, and experimentally the phase shift incurred by a soliton pulse when it collides with a copropagating, orthogonally polarized soliton pulse in a highly birefringent optical fiber. Use of a well-known average variational principle and a Gaussian ansatz reduces the dynamics to a set of ordinary differential equations for which an approximate analytic solution ...
متن کاملStabilization and destabilization of second-order solitons against perturbations in the nonlinear Schrödinger equation.
We consider splitting and stabilization of second-order solitons (2-soliton breathers) in a model based on the nonlinear Schrodinger equation, which includes a small quintic term, and weak resonant nonlinearity management (NLM), i.e., time-periodic modulation of the cubic coefficient, at the frequency close to that of shape oscillations of the 2-soliton. The model applies to the light propagati...
متن کاملPhysical Significances Of Fifth-Order Nonlinearity For Pulse Dynamics In Monomode Optical Fibres
We discuss, with illustrations, some physical significances of fifth-order nonlinear susceptibility for pulse dynamics in monomode optical fibres. The amplitude dynamic governing equation is the cubic-quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, (CQNLSE), which has soliton properties similar to the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, (CNLSE), based on solutions by a variational method. Some differ...
متن کاملDark soliton oscillations in Bose-Einstein condensates with multi-body interactions
We consider the dynamics of dark matter solitons moving through nonuniform cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensates described by the mean field GrossPitaevskii equation with generalized nonlinearities, in the case when the condition for the modulation stability of the Bose-Einstein condensate is fulfilled. The analytical expression for the frequency of the oscillations of a deep dark soliton is d...
